Here are some shots of the N.O., I have yet to decide what part of 1942 she will become?

The superstructures, funnels, catapult platforms, turrets are dry fitted in place. I drilled out the eyeholes on the bow with a pinvise. I added GMM US doors replacing the kits existing doors and hatches. The boat booms are Evergreen rod. Lower portholes are plated over using LionRoar scuttle covers.

Any comments most welcome. :wave_1:

Ditto. And yes, now you've added that one to my "must build" list :heh: Looks good so far. Can't wait to see more progress.

Here are a couple more pics of the N.O. boat. I've chosen to build her in early 1942 without the depth charge racks on the stern. She is in Ms.11 Sea Blue scheme. Does anyone know when she had her turret tops painted out, or did she retain them? Notice, pictures 1,3,4 look like Navy Blue 5N, while picture 2 is Sea Blue 5S. Superstructures are dry fitted in place. My thanks go out to Jon Iverson for helping me out on the Comrig 1.1's.

I can't wait to get my mitts on the Astoria kit - I even bought the Profile Morskie for that project. :heh:

Only thing I think Trumpeter could have done better are the side windows on the wheelhouse. Nothing a little surgery could fix though.

Bob,
How is this build coming along? Do you have any progress to report.
I missed getting this ship kit today at the Seattle Spring Show by two minutes. Some got to the table before I did. I guess I'll have to have my LHS order me one.

Dangit! I am trying to get away from 1/700 but I could build a whole bunch of these in the time it takes me to do a 1/350. Looking good :thumbs_up_1: Eagerly awaiting updates.

Matt

Hi Gordon and Matt:

This kit is on the backburner for now. My wife and I are going to be moving again, suppossedly in August. My wife is taking the plunge on buying a Veterinary practice. So far she has chosen a couple of locations, and we have to get cracking and go check them out. I might just add a couple of more parts to the build but I don't want to add anything that will take a beating during the move, ie: photoetch and masts etc. Just when I thought that Oklahoma was our final destination, another surprise comes about. Oh well, ya gotta do, what ya gotta do. :wave_1:

This build is looking great! The New Orleans is my all time favorite ship and this kit seems to be bringing her more popularity

I'm excited to get my hands on this kit seeing as my 1/700 Waveline kit wasn't available ANYWHERE and had to order the only ONE I could find out of Germany. And was also disappointed when I picked up Yankee Models Works 1/350 N.O. Kit because its going to take some major surgery on the bridge and aft superstructure to actually make this kit resemble the ship it's supposed to depict

I really want to continue with my build but I'm holding off on it because my wife and I will be moving, hopefully in September. I might show a couple of pics here and there of the funnels and non-breakable stuff. I also have been pondering starting my USS San Fran. and resin Kombrig Astoria kits as a side by side comparison. I can't wait for the Minnie, Quincy, and Vincennes kits to arrive as well. :woo_hoo: Not knowing where we will be moving to is very stressful, and not being able to go to the NATS is even worse. :mad_2:

While you're busy moving, I'll offer some pix of my own build-in-progress, but as Astoria (CA-34).

What are the differences between the Trumpy San Fran and Astoria kits?

Thanks
