I'm very happy cause I haven't finished a model in a while,my last project was the Tamiya Hood and I left her about 70% complete,it was a lot of work and I was a bit (loooooot) tired, left her and begun my tiny project ,it's the Combrig Cerberus, and believe me,is amazing the quantity and quality the detail of the kit,she is almost finished, the only missing thing is rigging :mad_1: but I want also to ask to my fellow modelers, this is a 4 inch model,my first time in such size,my question is regarding the weathering, the ship is tiny,It is advisable to weather it,or left the model untouched?,hope you can give me some advices. :wave_1:

Don't know if you should weather her or not but she looks fantastic, great work :thumbs_up_1:

Very nice job Miguel, personally I would go with a minimum of weathering, perhaps just a little lightening of the hull, a little smoke staining around the stack, a minimum of rust around the anchors and chains and that would be it.

Nice model! My Grandfather actually served in this ship when she was a depot ship in Victoria after WWI! (he was also at Jutland and traveled to Australia by submarine- but those are other stories)

I wouldn't weather the model at all. I think it's a very hit or miss affair with small scale models like ships.

Miguel, That is a beautiful model, I agree if you weather her, just a little bit. A little rigging and she is awesome!! Bravo Zulu

That is about the cleanest, sharpest build I have seen of the Cerberus...Awesome job.

I am no expert on the weathering as when I am done they look like hulks or close to it.

I would tned to agree with a LITTLE Rust around the chains, some soot, rigging and be done with it.

I have the same kit in the stash and could only dream it would come out as nice.

I've recently done the same kit as Hydra and I seriously overdid the weathering. Just add a little rust and maybe tone down the black somewhat as we're talking long term service in sunny Melbourne here.

I agree with all the above advice.

Cerebrus was active in peacetime--and the (A)RN in Victorian times was very spick and span...

As Mike suggested-maybe lighten the hull a little- even the Victorians did not solve the 'chalking' of saltwater on a a hull.

In this small scale on this small (very very nice looking built!!) ship I would be inclined to NOT add rust to anchor or chain--I reckon that any rust would have been chipped and painted very soon--however a very subtle bit of rust 'leaching'... rust water stains below the hawsepipes would be permissible..!

I really look forward to seeing thiS ship in the gallery!

Regards

Great model Miguel :thumbs_up_1:

I've also built this model but, I only used subtle weathering on the stacks.

Great stuff

Excellent Miguel.
A nice clean built.
Now for the trick question:
- are you going to place it on a water base?

Saludos,
Rui

Great stuff but at that scale, I'd leave weathering out entirely.

To be right it would be so small and subtle not to be worth the effort.

I keep checking out that kit everytime I look through the Combrig listings, but ketp passing it up. Seeing one built has changed my mind.

Very nice!!

Try Rui's water method, it works great!

Hi Miguel

I live in Victoria and I thank you for modelling one of our historical landmarks. Great work on the model. I would not weather too much as you don't want to ruin your great work.

Amazing work! :thumbs_up_1: - I don't know why I missed this build before. I scratchbuilt this ship in 1/96 scale last year - you can see the build thread here (I'll post the photos to the gallery soon, as this thread will probably be deleted eventually) - but it looks like you've put as much detail work into your 1/700 Cerberus as I did with mine 7 times the size  - you added the anchor davits, for example, which I gave up on due to lack of reference.

Is your model built "out of the box" or did you add any scratchbuilt detail, extra PE etc.? I'm not familiar with Combrig kits so don't know what you get in the box.

thank you very much for your words Mr EPinniger, the kit is very good ,but yes ,I modify her a bit with some Lion Roar perforated bars ,Voyager davits and GMM ultrafine railing, also the control steering is from WEM,and I do use your excellent Cerberus as a reference
