I am fooling around with the new software. Let's see what we see with this photo. I think I almost have a 800x600 here! :woo_hoo:

I am posting a few photos my progress on the lower shrouds. Lots of tedious needle and thread work to lash the shroud lanyards to the shrouds. That is one of the reasons I am also going to start a build log on my newest project. When I get burned out on the rigging of this ship, I can work on laying out the keel and bulkheads on the USS Columbus in 1/72 scale. I haven't looked at the main page yet, but I take it there is a section to establish "builds"?
I have the bowsprit yard, and the dolphin striker done. I am making the heart blocks and will be rigging the bob-stays, bowsprit shrouds, the fore stay, and the fore stay preventer soon.

Yes, I tried several times to get the twist out. I will give your suggestion a try. It will mean re rigging all of the lanyards. I have noticed on some models, that a board/beam was lashed just above the upper dead eyes. I do not know if this was an actual feature on some ships or if it was simply to "line up" the twisted dead eyes? Not that I was thinking of doing this, but It MAY have been done?

Heartily concur!

The image size limit is 150 kb- currently you are between 85-105kb ....

-so if you have something you really wanna show off...

try your software at 1000 pixels wide...

Rigging--I love it--your model looks simply stunning!!!.

another way of preventing the deadeyes rotating..

is to hold them in the plane you desire whilst infusing the deadeye rigging with some CA glue.

it will save you having to un-reeve the twisted deadeyes....

Thanks Jim, I will try that before I try the re-rigging. If it works, GREAT, if not, well, I am used to doing things over on this, my first scratch attempt. My next ship will be soooo much easier. As they say, experience IS the best teacher. You know, tutorials on such situations would be nice. Areas such as this and the tricks to make them look good are hard to find. You mostly find out after you have done them, posted them, and find that they are somehow just not quite right. I am really having trouble with the sizes of certain blocks, like violin and closed and open heart blocks. Like cleats, I cannot find much on how big they should be.

Still working at seizing the lanyards to the shrouds. Got bored with that and worked on open and closed hearts for the bowsprit stuff. Some photos so far.

I have been picking away at the rigging. It may not look it, but a lot of work has been done since my last post. I have LOTS of photos to post here, so enjoy.

Looking at everything in the photo editor really brings out the tiny flaws, and lets me know where I need to so touch ups.

The Mizzen top has 5 dead eyes on one side and six on the other. Don't worry, I know! I will take one off the six sided dead eyes for a total of 5 per side when I rig the lanyards.

The masts are not perfectly straight, :Mad_6: So, I will need to put the back stays on to help straighten it before I rig the top dead eyes, other wise one side is going to droop.

Just to let you know, I will be posting photos later tonight or tomorrow morning. I had to make another traveler for the flying jib stay, several single, double and violin blocks. Some hooks, large eyebolts and several thimbles. I also made all of the back stay ropes. I am still putting the smaller deadeyes and their chains on the channels, so I had to make a few more chain links as well. It has been a lot more work than I thought. I thought the RUNNING rigging was suppose to be the hard part!

Sorry, no photos this time. I have been mostly installing stays and back stays. Have had a tough time determining where the back stays tie off on the channels. The plans from the Smithsonian only show dead eyes for a couple of back stays on the main and fore mast, and one on the mizzen. All references, both in rigging plans and in Lees book show as many as 4 on the main and fore leading to dead eyes, and two others tying off to either a block rig or to an eye bolt. The mizzen has 3 on each side. This is on 100+ gun ships (or four deckers).

I have had to make a few special block sizes for the top gallent and royal stays. Which sort of leads me to a question in regard to block sizes. I know there is a ratio to rope circumference used to determine the size of the block, but, is this size the total length of the block, or the diameter of the sheave inside the block?
