Firstly, MERRY CHRISTMAS to all of you!

Secondly, I'd like to show you my Christmas treat, DML's USS Spruance, an advance Christmas gift from dad. She's almost done, and after building this, I'm thinking of shifting to 1/700 from now on! :D

Looking really, good, Nick! :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

Just don't look at any reference photos............they will ruin the enthusiasm, for you.

I hope that I'm not ruining the build, for you, by mentioning this. The port side platform along the hangar, on the model, really bugs me. It's nothing like the real thing.

Keep up the excellent work! :thumbs_up_1: Just keep looking at the starboard side. :wave_1:

I'm with you Nuke, great job there Nick but yes, stay away from the photos  Whoever made that kit apparently never looked at a photo of a real ship. The aft re-fueling stations are the biggest glaring problem I found. I completely scratch built new bulkheads to replace them. The superstructure bulkhead detail is all messed up to. Its like the guy in charge knew that hatches and other fittings were supposed to be there, never looked at any photos, and just sprinkled them around wherever they felt like :doh_1:

Still, your build is looking very nice and clean! The railings look great as well. Question, I can see the masts in the background but can't tell if they are the PE or plastic ones. If they are PE ones can you share your opinion on how they went together please?

Looking forward to the rest of the build :thumbs_up_1:

-Mike

Naaah, it's alright! I'm not into the 'oh so perfect' details for this build, just havin' some fun for the seasons! Maybe I'll try on my next build :)

Cliffy,
Yeah those are the PE ones. I'm gonna be frank with this, they are truly a DISASTER! It has a very major issue with fit, and they doesn't even come close to the real thing, but still, it is much better than the thick plastic ones, and just like what I said, I'm in for the fun!

Well, finally, the masts have been added. I used a spare 1/350 radar for the radar on the 2nd lattice mast..

Nice model. :thumbs_up_1:
I have a kit from the company "Lee"of it.
Were the photo etched parts for this kit? The mast look really great and delicate.

Beautiful Christmas yet.

Hey Nick, not to put a damper on your build man, but I think you goofed the masts a bit. Those single railings you put on top of the yardarms are actually foot rails and should be on the bottom of the yardarms :frown_2: Just thought I'd point it out to you in case you want to fix them before you get completely done. She's looking great man!

Thanks Eugene, uaw233, Nektarios and Cliffy! :heh:

Cliffy,

Yeah, I goofed them a bit, but I did know already that those railings on the yardarms are supposed to be three bar railing, but I ran out of those, so I used spare 2 bar railing. I'll try to look around my PE stash and see if I still have 3 bar railings left out from my other 1/700 builds. Thanks for the info though!

Nick
