Thanks so much gentlemen!

Detailing the bridge, forward deckhouse and Mk-37 Director.

Vent covers have been fabricated and installed on three of the fore and
aft deckhouse vents. There are two covers on the forward deckhouse,
one on each side, and one on the aft deckhouse, starboard side only.
The remaining deckhouse vents on DD-802 had no covers. The
covers are more complex than the vent itself. Each cover consists of 10
parts. Each vent is made of just five parts.

File comment: The bridge watertight door openings have been cut out. You can now easily see into the bridge so it will have to be detailed.

File comment: The Mk-37 Director has been further detailed. Three of the hatches have been opened and all hatches have hinge details added. The range finder has been fabricated. The base of the director is slightly smaller than a quarter ($.25 coin). The director is composed of 48 parts so far.

Gentlemen, thanks so much!

Here is the original Lindberg kit's Mk-37 Director next to the scratch-built
replacement
sitting on top of the new pilot house.

Attachments:
File comment: The big difference between the kit pilot house and the replacement is the number of portholes on the forward face. Real Fletchers had five portholes, the kit's
has just four. The difference in the shape of the kit's director house and one made from plans is quite noticeable.

Detailing the aft deckhouse continues. Door openings have been roughly
cut out, some bulkhead details are in place, and the outriggers and
stanchions are installed (some straightening yet to be done).

Hi Steve it's always nice to see your workmanship on the board and the latest shows that accuracy is not compromised but enhanced.

Thanks again for all your kind words!

Deckhouse detailing continues.

Most Fletchers had one draped fire hose and one
rolled fire hose on the face of the forward deckhouse but photos of
DD-802 indicate she had two draped firehoses there. Still need to
straighten those stanchions!

Attachments:
File comment: This weekend's fabrications and installations include: draped firehoses and firehose racks, porthole wiper motors, closed air-tight hatches, inverted "V" gutters above the watertight hatches on the 01 and 02 levels, chests, spare depth charge throwers, reel, and torpedo firing control boxes and rudder direction indicator on the inside of the navigating bridge splinter shield.

Are you going to glaze the portholes or cover them with a clear sheet, or just leave them open? Looking good!

Timmy, not sure if I'll glaze them. In combat, they might be left open to
help facilitate good communication between bridge crew outside and
inside the pilot house. But glazed would sure look good. Hmmmm.

Mark, actually finish a model?? Now where's the fun in that? :eyebrows:

Thanks again for all the kind comments!

Detailing the pilot house interior begins.

Attachments:
File comment: Pilot house interior controls, helm, indicators, chart table and remote unit have been fabricated and installed. These were made from various strip, rod and tube styrene. The binacle and captain's chair will be fabricated and installed next as well as a bulkhead which separates the bridge from other compartments within the pilot house.

Looks great. I think the only think your pilot house will be missing is "the kitchen sink!"
