Been working on it for the whole 2010.
I personally interested in container ship. So, i put as much effort as i can to make it looks better. Heaps of photo etch are used & hundreds of photo are studied to make the model looks real.
To make the container looks corrugated, i use scriber to craft lines on it, which is a big pain. But it does make a difference.
At this stage, only 5 blocks of container been made.

Enjoy the photo & hope you'll love my work. ^_^

Excellent job with crisp detail! About the decals for the containers did you buy from the market or made yourself? They look pretty realistic. I would suggest, if you like scratch of course, try to make some tank containers also. They will be looking so good!!

some of the decals are purchased from market (OOCL & NYK logistics)
and the decals of HYUNDAI & APL are printed by myself using ink-jet decal. I am also thinking of making a few tank containers, maybe 2-3 will be enough. Thanks for your advice anyway !

I am still looking at your very attractive model. Looking at some pictures on the net, noticed that your gangway ladder is a true model of the real thing. Is it a photoetch made yourself ? also the grid for the bow thruster is excellent. I wonder, you've seen the vessel in drydock or it is only a guesswork? I make some small modification on the rudder of my model but it is only guesswork based on experience.

Thanks for sharing.

The gangway ladder is made from Lion Roar PE set R7068 (WWII USN accommodation ladder & gangplanks) and other generic vertical ladder. I used this PE kit to make the mast on the starboard of the superstructure too. I did not see the real ship, just searching as many photo as I can from the net (not only the Colombo Express itself, but also her sister ships. There are minor differences among them). The grid of the bow thruster is only my guesswork, base on drydock photo of other container ship.

Your interpretetion of the photos is truly amazing. Only a real merchant ship lover can do that.Did you add any thickness to the lashing bridges forward of the Accommodation besides the side panels? they look massive enough.

tms : do you mean if I have made the lashing bridge thicker than the original part from the model kit ?
Image

The answer is NO. I cut off the the outermost bar of the lashing bridge, and is replaced by two plastic rod, making it has a small gap as in the real ship.

It looks very enhanced anyway. thanks for sharing the photos, very nice job. I have built the accommodation block befor painting in order to eliminate the seams but it is a headache to paint the decks now.

I did the painting first before assembly. And most of the paint I applied, like the green colour of the deck, are using airbrush. the seams still can be fixed afterwards.

I thought that I would like to have my "Colombo" so well built. I do not know if I then sussed.

As a joke was the question of whether I could send you my model kit to build. :cool_2:
