Hey all here is my third ship build it is as stated above. It will be the RMS Admiral Kharmolov 678 of the Nothern fleet picture shows 606 but that was pre 2004. I am trying a new water technique using silicone. Critiques are greatly appreciated.I started this for a GB on MSW.

And the Paint job. the deck is black, dark ghost gray, hull red and touch of gunmetal, and top deck is yellow ,red, dark ghost gray. Im not liking the paint job the paint came out a little goopy for some reason and I mixed for like 5 min. Then came out grainy on the model and I used Tamiya grey primer. weird, anyway I thinkk I got the colors almost on compared to my ref pic. critiques are welcomed.

Your water and your ship colors all look pretty good and pretty accurate. There aren't a lot of photos of Kharmolov but it looks to me like you do have the wrong color in a couple places. The hanger roof and the bow SAM launchers both look to be all light gray instead of having a gray and red combo. At least in 2006 and 2008.

Thanks for the scoop, I was using the Box paint scheme and another picture I found on a russian site, It seems that all the ships are similar but differnt paint jobs, I saw one with a green deck. Any other modelers like to critique or add advice?? :wave_1:

The Soviet Navy used different colour schemes for ships depending upon the fleet they were in. I'm not sure which scheme was used with each fleet except that the Baltic Fleet used light grey and the Atlantic fleet used dark grey, both with orangy-red decks.

Until now you have given you much trouble.
But I think the color information is not really.
The hull and superstructure are dark gray. The main deck is brown leather and the other walk decks have this rusty-orange color.
Pass the water is white (in the original 5-10 cm) and dark red or even green underneath.
What I also found something wrong is the color of the gloss. All decks are dull and the superstructure and the hull are satin.

As for your water view, and I shall be the "new" kind of not quite clear?
That with the silicone, there is still a very long time.
The presentation of the waves, you should also look at you again closer to photos.
It is presented with almost a little too intensive.
It is very static.

Thank you for the .help so Adm K is in Northern Fleet. Also what are the radars on the top of bridge and above the hanger, I dont think my skywave kit has those??

So I can paint the hull Gunship Gray, and change some of the deck colors, but I am not sure which colors are where. I am grateful for the help and i would like to be pretty close. so my reference picture is wrong? Also i will spray the hull satin when im done.

regards
eugene

The radar on the helicopter hanger(there is another on top of the bridge) are the the fire control randars for the SAN-9 SAM system.

There were problems with the development of this system and several ships in the class were finished and operational before the fire control was fitted.

Eugene,

I did some checking. The model you are using represents the first ship of the class, the "Udaloy." As you have said, the kit doesn't have the cross swords radar you need for the bridge and hanger roofs, which you need in order to represent Kharmolov. What you will have to keep in mind when using the reference pics of the Udaloys, is that ships assigned to different fleets have different colors, and the choices of which color goes on which area of the ship varies from ship to ship, and from time period to time period on the same ship. Good Luck.

Dan.

Hallo "Thundergrunt",

No problem if you can help that's a good thing in modeling colleagues.

Radar systems in the kit you should be there, because in the second kit, the Udaloy these are also given. If it's not a problem because this radar systems were installed at the shipyard handed over already.

For what ever my two cents is worth..... White Ensign makes the Russian deck red and both North Sea and Baltic fleet greys. I'm working on Admiral Pantleyev in 1/350. Anybody have a clue as to what Pacific Fleet uses for grey? (Would love to see samples from all three fleets side by side. )
