Good morning,
a long time ago, I asked the question, how to paint small aircraft best. Well, I got some answers, and now the results are now here. Let's see the first part of the project, the air wing.
That's how I did them in general. First fold the wings, then mask the canopy, then a dark grey base, then white (airbrush) and light gull grey (brush). Just to test, I did a corsair without the grey priming, and the cockpit area looks well too bright!
The decals of the trumpeter kit, compared to the decals from Starfighter decals.
The same for the Intruders. Radome tan is brush painted. A difference in the construction were the overlapping wing of the intruders, as opposed to the pointing-straight-up-wings of corsairs and phantoms. Here, I did the complete job, including decals, and cut the wings and re-glued them folded at the end. Here, we can also see the difference in the two decals. Walkway on the trumpeter need to be painted, as no decals supplied in the original kit.
The single Skywarrior got decals from the trumpeter kit, as it is not on the Starfighter decal sheet (actually, this aircraft isn't in the air wing eight)
One of the three vigilantes. Note the bare metal leading edge slat.
The Phantoms. You can again see the difference in the two decal sheets. Trumpeter is missing the walkways, which need to be painted by brush.
Some other aircrafts, like the Sea Kings (2x)
And the hawkeyes (3x)
The completed fleet - 55 aircrafts, some 800 decals, 9 Month of work.
A test layout I did in an earlier stage. Looks rather busy!
I have some pics more, you can just browse them on the photobucket-library here:
