Recently finished reading this book. Written by Barrett Tillman, this book is an account of the Battle of the Phillipine Sea in June, 1944, which was at largest carrier clash of all time. Tillman does a nice job in detailing in chronological fashion the events leading up to the engagement, with particular focus on the repeated Japanese attempts to attack the US fleet and the overwhelming victory that followed.

The books also covers the "Misson Beyond Darkness", when the US launched a late day strike against the Japanese carriers, and the chaos that followed as USN strike planes, low on fuel, tried to find their own carriers in the dark.

A little dry at times, but if you are a fan of Naval history, especially the war in the Pacific, you'll like this book.

Yo Phillipine Sea, I'm really happy for you, I'ma let you finish, but Midway had one of the best battles of all time. OF ALL TIME!

The most interesting section of the book, for me at least, described the logistics of refueling and provisioning the fast carrier task forces. The logistics involved was fascinating. It took a lot to keep a carrier task force at sea.

I am reading this one right now, and really enjoying it. I only have one slight disagreement with Martin's assessment however; I don't find it dry at all! :heh:
