Hi, I came across this book last summer at my library, saw it used at amazon real cheap and it got good reviews from what I saw online. I'm usually reading a few books at a time so I decided to get through one of my pile of books first before starting a new pile (it was more my wife's desicion, but she's awesome about the pile of models so I agreed w/ her on the books). Anyway, I was ready to grab it and it's now gone from the library (missing) and the price on amazon, ebay, etc. is around $30 - $40 for a used copy.

If someone who has read this could you let me know if its worth getting at that price or should are there other books on the Battle of the River Plate that are just as good or better.

Thanks,
Steve

You know, I read this book when it first came out. I was anxious for another perspective on the Graf Spee and the Battle of the River Plate. If memory serves me, I remember being very disappointed with it. Although there was more information in the book about subjects like salvage of radar components and the reasons for Graf Spee willingly accepting battle, the writting was not so good in my opinion. The book also talks about a weakness in Graf Spee's armor scheme that was shown up by an 8in hit from Exeter. I guess for a pleasant read I would say no. To get a few added details not found in the classic by Dudley Pope "The Battle of the River Plate", I'de say yes. Something is missing in the authors writting style in my opinion.

Thanks Bob, I'll take your advice and wait to see if it shows back up in the library system.
