Hi Laurence,

Interesting, my copy of Buxton has a different dustjacket, with (I'm at work so going on memory here) a photograph of one of the monitors firing a salvo. Was there a revised edition, or one for US and one for UK?

Thanks,
Ted

Yes Ted this is the original 1st edition I'm selling produced by the WSS and another publisher together.

The USNI did the US one a few years later I believe.

Yes, the USNI Press did their edition in 1980. That has the cover with the action photo. To anyone who hasen't got a copy of this book. Buy it now  Really a first class book covers ships and their wartime careers. I give it a 9 on a scale of 1-10. USNI edition has as usual not the best photo reproduction and paper, but still is quite good. I'm sure theU.K. edition is better.

Thanks, yes, just to confirm now that I'm home from work that my copy is the 1980 reprint by the USNI. The photo on the cover is the one of HMS Roberts firing on 6 June 1944, with HMS Frobisher in the background.
Good luck with the auction,
Ted

Cheers Ted,

If anyone is interested I contacted Dr. Ian Buxton last year he still works full time at Newcastle University and if you do a google search with his name his University contacts page appears including his email.

I've seen this one for $250 once, fortunately I picked it up for somewhat less. Very good book if you are interested in monitors, highly recommended.
