Hi all,

Does anybody know the book :

Chatham´s Battlecruiser HMS Hood, an illustrated bigraphy 1916-1941
by Bruce Taylor.

I am going to London in a couple of weeks, and I would like to know if this book is worth the disturbance to be looked for and the money it may cost.
Thanks in advance, and best retgards from Spain,

Willie.

Hi Willie,

Yes, it is definitely worth it! What a wonderful resource. It is the most complete "biography" of the ship yet, and is filled with excellent photographs and illustrations. The writing is engaging and accessible, yet scholarly and thoroughly researched. If I could only have one book about HMS Hood in my collection, it would be this one.

Best,
Ted

I'll second that. One of the few books trying to capture the entire career without being pretentious. Lots of pictures as far as modeling is concerned, but Taylors books tries (manages) to capture the life aboard a ship.

Well worth getting. The cost is £35 and it is available from most of the big bookshops.

If you get time, you really ought to visit Motor Books just off Charing Cross Road.

Cheers,

Rob

Hi all,

I forgot to let you know : At last I did not go to London with my students, so after all the encouragement I received from you all, I managed to buy bit in the internet, and it arrived just before X-mas.
The book is all the good you told me about and more, describing most completely not only the ship, but also life onboard her, and after most of the features are common to many other battleships in the RN, I can say this book is an excellent review of life in the RN in the 20´s and 30´s.
The pictorial part is simply superb.
Thank you all for your interest and help,

Willie.
