Hello all,

I'm desperately searching for plans and drawings of USRC McCulloch (1897). ANYTHING is highly appreciated as I'm building in small scale and only need a proper drawing of one side + decks.

Thanks a lot! I'll post pictures of the completed model asap!

Christian.

Hi Christian,

The NARA (National Archives and Records Administration) facility in College Park, Maryland has hard copy drawings of MCCULLOCH and many other U.S. revenue service/coast guard vessels. These can be accessed in the Cartographic and Architectural Research Room, and the staff can make full sheet copies. If you don’t live nearby, there are a number of professional researchers online who can pull any drawings you need and make copies for you.

That said, I happen to have digital photos of the following drawings for MCCULLOCH from a research trip a few years ago:

• “Docking Plan” (includes molded hull offsets at various stations)
• “Profile Inboard & Main Deck”
• “Profile Outboard”
• “Poop, Forecastle, Bridges, & Boat Stowage”

These were done by using a tripod and capturing each sheet in sections. I would be happy to share the photos, but they will require a bit of work to be useful. You will need software tools to first remove the lens distortion (to flatten the image) and then stitch them together. If you are interested, contact me by PM.

Cheers,

Tom

Hi Tom,

thanks for Your kind offer, which sounded most inviting to me but would have been a bit "over-engineered" given the small scale I planed to build McCulloch. I fortunately found a clear photograph of her broadside which served me well building that cutter... in 1/6000 scale:

Thanks again!

I saw your post. Do you know if this ship had capstain bars.
I think I have them.
