I was hoping there'd be a sticky w/recommended books on general modeling, especially for beginners. Is there somewhere else on the forums I should be looking?

TIA!

Hi Troy,

Welcome to here.

Look in the FAQ section and the Tips and Tricks section of this site for all manner of information.

A couple of my favourite basic books are:
1. Ship Models From Kits by David Griffith
2. Building & Detailing Scale Model Ships: The Complete Guide to Building, Detailing, Scratchbuilding, and Modifying Scale Model Ships (ISBN: 0890242402) by Mike Ashey

Cheers,
George

Mike Ashey's book is also available on his website for free in PDF form: http://mikeashey.com/BOOK-INDEX-PAGE%20.htm

Thanks to your input, George, I snatched a copy of the Griffith publication. Looks like it might prove useful, so thanks.
