Hi All

I have been looking on google for the last few days but can't find anything close.

I am looking for scale plans of the Bismarck in CAD format, either DWG or DXF I found a name, a guy called Nick Fox unfortunately his website is no longer available, does anyone have any of these plans they would be willing to share with me, I would be willing to pay for a copy.

Cheers

Nos.

Hi All

As I can't seem to get anywhere with Nick Fox plans are there any other recommended plans available for the Bismarck, preferably CAD drawings.

I do have Hans Gally plans at 1:100

Unfortunately trying to use these plans to redraw a scale model to eventually create a 3D model has the issues of potential scaling issues, using a steel rule to measure a scale plan then to redraw it on the computer is never accurate, slight errors of 1mm leads to errors of 10cm and this could easily occur due to line widths on the drawings.

Any help or advice on this matter would be appreciated.

Cheers

The CAD drawings you are referring to are a direct copy of the Gally plans down to the pixel. If you have a copy of the Gally plans, compare them to this image

Even the 3D view of the bridge top right is there. Isn't it just amazing when two people draw a planset they look so alike?

Hi EJFoeth

Thanks for the reply, yes the plans look almost identical apart from the Hans Gally plans have some basic decking layout on the superstructure.

Its not that I believe Nicks Fox plans are original, he probably used Hans Gally plans for his, its the fact they are already in CAD format that I am looking for, the Hans Gally plans are good but I am just not good enough of a CAD drafter to be able to take the plans and redraw them, that's why I was looking for a CAD version of the plans.

Hans Gally plans are not available in digital format but I was told Nick Fox plans were.

Cheers

It appears the Nick Fox drawings are a simple retrace of the Gally plans so I do not think they will have the consistency that you require from a real 3D CAD model? I know there are several good 3D models (Draminski, Schmidt) but I don't think they are for general use.

Hi EJFoeth

I would love to get access to Thomas Schmidt, its the definitive Bismarck 3D model, unfortunately as his model is used heavily in the film and TV industry he is not open to giving people access to his model. The wealth of knowledge he has on this ship is incredible due to the fact he was part of the James Cameron team on the Bismarck expedition.

I have been in contact with him and one of his plans is to create a virtual walkthrough of his model but not sure how far off is he, if he does release this it would be awesome from a modellers point of view as I don't think there is anything else in existence that is as accurate as his model.

Cheers
