I'm trying to get information on the HMAS Albatross seaplane carrier. Built in Australia in the '20s and eventually transferred to the Royal Navy at the beginning of WW2. Ideally I'm looking for images and drawings of her in the late 30s, when operating 2-3 Walruses but before her transfer.

As you'll see from this picture gallery I like the odd ones!

Plans of HMAS Albatross can be obtained from the Naval Historical Society of Australia:

http://www.navyhistory.org.au/shopping/ship-plans/

These may be the same as the plans available here:

http://www.ranhistory.org/drawings/store/viewItem.asp?idProduct=1477

I'm a bit suspicious about ranhistory.org since it is so anonymous.

But as it was a UK design plans might be available closer to home

Thanks everyone, I have seen the wiki pages and the plans listing at the archives- they want payment in Assie dollars which is a pain. I'll figure that bit out.

I kinda like seaplane carriers, which is why I built Akitsushima. Another two on the to-do list are Falke and Richtoven, both WW2 Kriegsmarine, the first a catapult ship for BV Flying Clogs and the other efectively a 1/2 scale model of Akitsushima for smaller seaplanes.

Any ideas?

The seaplane carrier HMAS Albatross, designed by the British Admiralty in 1925, was constructed at Cockatoo Island Dockyard for the Royal Australian Navy as ship number 106. Laid down in April 1926, launched on 23 February 1928 and completed on 21 December 1928, it was the first Australian-built seaplane carrier and the largest warship built in Australia up to that time. Length overall was 443 feet 9 inches, and displacement was 4Ê800 tons. The vessel had capacity for nine aircraft, but usually carried only six. In 1938 it was transferred to the Royal Navy as part payment for the cruiser HMAS Hobart.
