Volume 2 in this series on the Iowa-class battleships is now available: Armor of the Iowa-Class Battleships. It is currently available at the LULU store:

https://www.lulu.com/shop/john-miano/ar ... r9wkg.html

It should become available one other online stores (e.g. Amazon) over the coming weeks. However, the quality from those on LULU tends to be the best.

The book is 380 pages devoted solely to armor. There are drawings showing the measurements of every armor plate on the ships. There are photographs to show the armor in place and 3d renderings for areas that cannot be photographed. There are some original plans included at as well. Due to the generally poor quality of the originals, their numbers are limited.

The closest thing to this would be an Anatomy of the Shop book, except imagine something larger than an AOTS book devoted solely to armor.

If you are ready to build an Iowa-class battleship in your backyard, this is the book to start with.

Now on to volume 3.

Thanks. I have the New Jersey book, which is excellent. Will pick this one up as well.

Thanks for the update. Just picked up Volume 2 from Lulu, not familiar with them, so I can compare quality to volume 1. Can you share what volume 3 will cover?

Thanks.

I'm debating right now what to do in Vol. 3. I am straddling the turrets or the hull structure. The hull structure might have to be two volumes.

Bad news. Armor of the Iowa Class Battleships will NOT be available on Amazon. The printer for the Amazon books suddenly discovered they cannot print 400 pages as advertised. They can only do 340. The book is 386 pp. I could create a second version of the book that is cut down for Amazon but that would create confusion.

For the time being at least, the books will only be available at Museum Gift Shops and the LULU.COM book store.

https://www.lulu.com/shop/john-miano/ar ... r9wkg.html

On the plus side, the books that come from LULU.COM are of a higher quality than those that went through Amazon.

for the Amazon books, how about splitting it in half as in part 1 & part 2 to get all 386 pages printed?

Possible but then I'd need two versions of the book.

Plus, the printer that does the books for Amazon has had quality issues. The ones available at Lulu.com and Museum shops are of much higher quality.
