Just saw this book on Amazon, has anyone seen/read it yet? Looks interesting if you like wreck surveys or are interested in either PoW or Repulse.

Force Z Shipwrecks of the South China Sea: HMS Prince of Wales and HMS Repulse

Tim: I just ordered it yesterday from Amazon, I'll post my impressions when I get it, if your interested. There were two reviews, both very positive.

I received my copy a couple days ago.

First impression is good, though the construct is a bit odd. There are three "books" within the covers, so there are three chapter 1s (!). The first covers the ships from construction through departure for the Far East in late 1941. The second "book" is the story of Force Z and it's destruction. "Book Three" is 30 pages of pictures and details from dives on the wrecks, along with detailed drawings.

I didn't start reading at the beginning. My main interest in getting the book was the wrecks, so I started on Book Three.

If you have an interest in HMS Prince of Wales, HMS Repulse and Force Z, I recommend this book.

Is there anything new in the book?

Having not previously followed the dives and surveys of the wrecks, that information is new to me.

The info on construction and activities of HMS Prince of Wales I was already familiar with through Tarrant's "King George V Class Battleships."

If you are well-read on the Royal Navy of the 20th century, chances are very good that the only new info will be the 30 pages that are dedicated to descriptions, drawings and pictures of the wrecks.
