Hi chaps

Someone mentioned I should try and locate a naval book that was written perhaps around 1980 that dealt with Warships Machinery in World War 2.

I think it was based on Royal Navy warship systems but this may have not been exclusively i.e. it may have had things from others navies such as the USN.

It may have been called Engineering or Machinery of WW2 or something similar. One assumes talking about turbines, condensers, boiler pressures and all that kind of technical matters which I must familiarise myself if I am to more fully understand warships in the RN in WW2.

I appreciate this is not much to go and that the topic is rather esoteric, but if anyone can shed any light on this it would be most welcome.

Regards :wave_1:

Hi,

There was a 2 volume book entitled "Evolution of Engineering in the Royal Navy", both written by an ex-RN Commander Engineering - P.M. Rippon.
The first appeared in 1988 and covered the period 1927 to 1939.
The second came somewhat later in 1994 and covers the period 1939 tp 1992.
The first was published by Spellmount, and the second by Marine Management Holdings on behalf of the Institute of Marine Engineers.
Both volumes have drawing, photographs and tables of interest (some better/more useful than others of course).
Both were about 35-40 pounds sterling, but don't ask me where I bought them.

hope that helps

Terry

Cheers Terry I managed to get both of these books recently in near new condition.

After much searching I paid £46 for both volumes including international airmail, all in all a good price I think for these behemoths!
