I fancied a nice ' quick' build... and for a change a ship that would be well documented in plans with plenty of supporting photographs.
A 'good'' kit starting point and what could be easier...>
This self delusion lasted around 1 hour--before I realised that whilst I really liked the ship--the kit had compromises that I could not leave alone
Inspired by an old print of the Fred Mitchell Painting hanging in my hallway....
The Victorian Royal navy offered me the pre-dreadnought Magnificent class which comprised of 9 (!) ships

The basis of the model is a 1/700 resin kit by Combrig models--
The model is evidently based on the Burt and the Roberts drawings-and the measures up them faithfully in every respect-...
alas as it turned out too faithfully!
At the outset I realised I would be removing a lot of things before the build proper would begin.( and any hope of a quick build evaporated! )
The boat deck/well-deck should have undercuts in all directions-
On the kit this was cast solid-
==> ( this is an example where I would be very happy to pay substantially more
for a high quality multi-media kit with brass decks etc )
anyhow--the deck enclosed by solid boxes looked wrong--and is wrong--an easy mistake to make when viewing the overhead views-
-less so when looking at the cross-section in the WARSHIP Volume...
so the first thing to do was to make some templates of the basically good shapes
a basis for reconstruction resulted
The previously made templates being a valuable resource
it all started to look more promising
Other corrections were started along the way...
