At long last we have an IM kit of a British WW2 cruiser. Here is Trumpeter`s 350th Belfast ,as usual,I messed around with it and converted it to represent her as she looked in 1952,off Korea. This was inspired by the excellent photo of her from Mr Rick E Davis.
Most of the alterations were needed in the midships area, removal of aircraft catapult ,reduced the number of 4" mounts to 4 and moving the single crane to aft of the bridge structure.I built home-made 40mm bofors and quad pom-poms.The radar aerials were from the MK designs PE for RN radars. All in all it is a good kit ,and I`m thinking of doing an Edinburgh ,once I`ve figured out the differences. I`ve attached some build pics as well

Thanks for looking Phil

Typical top-draw finish, Phil!

What's the kit like to build? Any catches??

Oh, & what colour are the ships boats? They don't look quite white....

Thanks All.The kit itself went together really well ,and is one of Trumpy`s better offerings, I think it is on a par with their Type 23.There may be an issue with the kits funnels, but I`m not getting my knickers in a knot over them.I just removed the raise detail on them and they look fine to me.
I always paint the ships boats the same grey as the ship itself, only if I know for definite that they were painted a different colour I do them differently .

Cheers Phil

That's a super build, Phil. I have this ship to build, and I too am going to convert her to Korean War fit, as a tribute to my late Father, who served in Belfast at that time.
I wonder if you could advise me on how you altered the wind baffles on the upper and lower bridge, as I'm not sure how to go about this, and don't want to ruin my model before I've started ! :good_job:

Hi Patemm,I replaced the kit PE wind baffles with tiny bits of stretched sprue (millions of `em! or so it seemed) It was labourious ,but I think it looks better than the pe.Hope your build of the Belfast gives you as much enjoyment as mine did ,good luck !

Cheers ,Phil :thumbs_up_1:

Another excellent build Phil,
All you need now is a flattop to display alongside Belfast.
Regards
Richard :thumbs_up_1:

Hi Phil,
Thanks for the reply to my query . . . Much appreciated ! I think I shall try something similar with my model. I might try building those bits first to see how I get on, and if that doesn't work out I can always build it in WWII configuration ! :thanks:
