Thanks to all your warm encouragement on my first attempt of building a model ship, I have the confidence to start my second build. I choose the Hobbyboss's DDG-67 as my second attempt and want to build it as DDG-53 USS. John Paul Jones which inspired by the movie 'Battleship'.

The HB's Arleigh Burke Class Destroyer is a really nice model, it has very good fitting and details, and also comes with some essential PE parts. Apart from the PE set comes with the model, I only added some PE ladders, USN modern railings, USN modern weapons and rotors for the helicopter.

The decal sheet comes with model only have the hull number of DDG-67, and it doesn't provide the warning circle for the main gun and Phalanx. The white line that across the white rectangular mark on the bow should be dash line, but the decal provided is a solid line. So I used a third part decal on this model. However, the decal softer seems has no effect on this decal, the decal still quite strong and reflective after applying the decal softer:Mad_6:. I think a coat of matt clear finish can fix this, but I have to wait till the weather become not that cold and the humidity goes down a bit.

Finally, when I finished weathering the ship, I think it seems a bit over done for USN ships since most of the time the USN ships are clean and well maintained. So I just convince myself to consider it as this ship just come back from a long time off shore deployment.

Now here is the completed ship, hope you like it.

Very nice looking DDG. I always liked the look of the Burke Class cans. Good job! :thumbs_up_1:

Very nice build. I understand how difficult it is to consider weathering ships that are generally well-kept.

Well done Andrew, I really do like your build as I have sweet spot in my heart for the Arleigh Burke class. Now I feel inspired to build this kit as well. Congratulations and keep it coming :thumbs_up_1:

Great build!

I have no idea whether it is looking too dirty or not, but the weathering does bring the model alive IMHO.

Cheers,

Marijn

Very nice work!

If it's inspired by the movie Battleship, then it really looks like it just got back from a battle with giant alien spaceships off Hawaii!
