A few more shots and some observations.

My first real gripe on this kit:

There are some ommissions on the directions that can be frustrating, and other parts of the directions can be a little confusing.

The footrails on the bridge are mentioned nowhere in the directions. They just simply appear in the background on one of the last pages of the directions. Speaking of footrails, the bridge ones are very nice... but they forgot to include the footrails for the hangar area. the molded lines to place them are there, as they were for the bridge, but there are none included in the PE set. There are also a few other PE parts that are not mentioned in teh directions, but magically show up on drawings of the completed build.

Some of the sequences that the directions call for don't make a lot of sense, but those are easily recognized by a modeler with a little experience and dealt with accordingly.

Thanks guys! And Martin, she will def be there. The New York is currently assigned to the USS Iwo Jima amphib task force, so if your Iwo is there we will have the makings of a hell of an assault force!

The New York is all but finished. All that is missing are the 2 extended antennaes from the flight deck, those will wait till I have mounted her to her base, whcih I hope to finish this weekend along with the case of course. Likely I will add a few crew figures to her, directing the ospreys and a couple on the RHIB deck.

The ospreys went together fine, I am not very familiar with them so can't speak to their accuracy, but had no fit problems. the clear styrene is a pain as always though. The aft osprey I dropped after it was completed, and the boom broke off as well as the tail. Boom is lost, but I reattached the tail which now has a nasty seam, so that will be left off for any competition she enters!

The RHIBs got a little detailing with soldering wire to make the lifting structures but are otherwise OOB. These are pretty plain and are the first thing in this kit that really scream to be replaced with some aftermarket goodies.

I glazed over the windows with some testors window maker and installed the wipers. the wipers are a much appreciated and surprising addition to the kit PE.

The below waterline hull was lightly weathered with some white chalking from the salt water, though it is barely noticable in the pictures.

I am very happy with how the huge American flag came out. I used the thin foil from a hershey kiss to stick the decal to and then shape. Really really happy that the kit includes 4 flags of this size! That leaves me with 3 huge flags, so by my calculation that means one each for Reagan, Wasp, and Iwo Jima!

A few more shots, and I forgot to mention above:

I couldn't resist popping one more of the awesome bronco models Amtracs on the stern ramp, along with some more water. On this build I am most glad that I decided to take a chance on the water in the well deck even though this is a full hull build. I think it adds a lot to the overall impression.

I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to use the term "badass" once again. :thumbs_up_1:

Great job. Your weathering came out excellent.
I may be grabbing a few of those Bronco amphibious landing craft to fill my well deck.
Your PE came out good to.
What are you going to build next? I'm going to be trying to find a Ticonderoga CG. My boy just got stationed on the 61.

Thanks very much guys, though a lot of the credit is due to the quality of the kit as well.

Major, I did see the veteran stuff is back, and have their RHIB, but as you pointed out, there are 2 kinds on this ship, the standard smaller one that veteran makes, but then the large one that no one makes to my knowledge. If I replaced the smaller one with a veteran rhib, the big one will just look even more like a toy sitting there. So in the end I just sucked it up and used the kit ones, even though I am not a big fan. I used LED strip lights from micro mark, but this time I tried the "warm white" instead of the "bright white" I used on the Reagan and Bush. the lights are the same ones sold at superbright led's but waaay cheaper (thanks for the info on the prices boomstick). I think I like the warm white a little better than the bright, at least for these well decks...

Mark, the bronco AAV's are way way better than the gallery ones, I grabbed a couple boxes for my LHD builds. They gallery ones are ok to park in the depths somewhere, but these deserve the front row tickets.

Next up it is back to work on the Reagan as well as my trio of Burke class ddgs for commission. I used this as a quick break from the insane detailing and scratchbuilding of that carrier. Be thankful your son did not get transferred to the Bush or Reagan, at lease a tico is a more or less straight forward build!

First, this is a great job of detailing on this ship. I have one I am working on and I also would like to light interior. How hard was it to do that ? I just went to Micro Mart site and saw led strips for about $50.00 USD. How much materials do I need to do this and do I need an electrical degree as well !!!
Where did you put your power source for LEDs.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
ALos I brought Bronco aftermarket parts as well as some Eduards figures, I think what is left over can go towards my WASP from Gallery as well and the technique can help with some other ships I want to try.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Huey

hey Huey, Sorry, I did not see your post until just now. If you plan to light numerous ships, the micro mark set is the way to go. It gives you a 50' spool of lights that will last ya for a good while. All you need is the power source, battery pack or wall plug, and the connectors and you are good to go, it is absolutely simple. I run my wires out the bottom of the ship and through the base and have my [power source just hidden on a shelf behind the model. this allows me to plug it in to the wall when I am home, and disconnect that and use a battery pack when I take it to a show. For this particular ship, I used one strip of LED's running down the center of the well deck. I think I used about 15" of light strip.

I used this same technique for lighting on the 1/350 Bush, Reagan, and intend to use it on my 2 LHD's as well. It is simple and effective, and the actual LED's are small enough to pass as scale light fixtures without needing to be hidden behind styrene.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for the advice on lighting the ship I found a vendor at a local show today selling led by the foot so made a small investment to try it out before making a major micro mart investment
Thank you for helping a novice!!!

Thanks a lot guys, it was a quick fun build, I enjoyed it and am pretty happy with it, and especially proud of myself that I resisted my urges to go super-detail crazy.

Keith- that will be a really cool display with yor Wasp, Martin's Iwo Jima and my New York; we will have all 3 of the gallery models ships on the table and it will be neat for people to see what can be done more or less OOB with these 3 kits (with the exception of your few backdates and my well deck, I think Martin did a true OOB). Shows that they can be made to look really nice without a fortune in aftermarket and / or scratch additions.

Well, I can call this one done. She is mounted on her base, and I will be making her case shortly, the name plaque for her base is on order. With the exception of another osprey and maybe a few crew members, I have no additions planned to her. Since on these ships, the anchors recess completely out of sight into the hull, I decided to have one of them hanging jsut for a little visiual ingterest.

A few finished shots, and the rest will be in the gallery shortly.

I had to jump in one more time and say WOW!
Once again I'm impressed with how great the water looks in the well decks. I wish I had the guts to try that.

Your write up on the ships of the day page today is great, and you did an outstanding job of taking the pictures. Now put her under glass, and start that Iwo Jima. LOL
