Thanks Greg!
I'll save one on the front row for you! :)

Speaking of paint, the real challenge for me will be to obtain a very straight thin dirt line at high tide level all around the hulk.

Yep, that is a nice one isn't it! And if you look carefully at it, it consists of multiple lines from different water levels, and different colors in it. That will be fun!
Of course I gave that one some thought already. I have contemplated sitting the model in a colored bath, and letting it evaporate. But I abandoned this, and now I think instead I will paint it completely by hand with Humbrol enamels. This will take quite a lot of time, but will be the most controleable, and give me the most precise result I think. But there must be more ways to get good results, and another technique might suit you better of course.

Well... I might move my schedule and have the custom PE done by early July, should you be interested. I'm afraid the PE will have to cover the aft deck supporting structure, the aft elevator well and the large section of missing main deck abaft the island. I mean the side perforated girders, the other part I'll do the traditional way (Evergreen).
Do you have some kind of internal profile as to precisely fix the hangar height?
_Bruno

Yes, of course I'm interested in your PE! :) :)
Just let me know how your progress is, and I'm sure we'll come to an arrangement.
The Russian book mentioned earlier has nice longitudinal section drawings which show the height of both hangars clearly. I'll PM you about it.

Cheers,

Marijn

Hi all, but especially to Marijn…

Another project to follow with great interest!!
It's your ability to tell the story, apart from the modeling skills and great techniques and photo skills etc etc :)
that really gets my attention and interest!

Carry on
Cheers
Rui

Thank you very much for your kind words Rui!

I'm currently on a family holliday in Turkey, and took some stuff with me to scratchbuild the three cargo ships which can be seen in the youtube video.

I finished the first one, a wooden seagoing truck ('sugar dog').
It was the largest (but at 1/700 still only 6cm long) and most complex of the three.

The mast is only a mockup. It needs to be more detailed and tapered, for which I need my Dremel which I left at home. I also still need to add a small chimney, with thin metal tubing I also left at home.
The roof of the bridge is only tacked on with Blue Tack, so I can paint that area easier later on.

To give an idea of the scale: that's an ordinary toothpick sticking out of the bottom of the ship.

Sorry for the crappy cellphone pics...
Cheers!

Marijn

Forgot to mention: after painting, I will still add an awning aft with white glue on the brass wire structure.

Cheers,

Marijn, great job. :thumbs_up_1:

Good idea to picture Amagi like that. I created Amagi from the age before air strike on Kure.
Cross your fingers and I am looking forward to your new diorama.

Thank´s for Shoho. It is close to be completed, than I put photos directly to Completed Models.
In near future I would like to cretae Zuiho 1942 and 1944 as Ryuji. Than I will put it directly to Works in Progress.

Milan

Hi Marijn
How did you manage to go on holidays without packing your Dremel???
That's a big no-no ;)
Great job on the small boats, as expected

Carry on
Cheers,
Rui

No kidding, I actually considered packing my Dremel, but wisely decided to leave the masts for back at home... :)
