Hello!

I just completed a modified build of the ancient, low tech, Lindberg Tuna Clipper. This was an enjoyable project and the kit is easy to modify and enhance. Thanks for looking, your comments, questions and suggestions are always welcome!

Thanks Jim. These old Pyro/LifLike/Lindberg kits are certainly not up to the present standards, but they are really not that bad for being 50+ years old.

Inspiration for my Tuna Clipper build came from this old photo:

It is not a bad kit at all, even by "modern standards". Being ex-Pyro and not being an original Lindberg kit is probably the reason for the kit's overall crispness.

The boat looks exactly like the prototype that it was modeled from, a tuna clipper known as the Gulf Star. The hull lines also speak ocean going tug or salvage tug and the kit could possibly be converted as such.

This looks pretty darned cool. Where did you get the helicopter? It really enhances the overall appeal of the model.

Thanks for having a look!

I believe that the "Gulf Star" was built by Avondale Shipyards in 1951 along with her sister "Challenger". The kit is a very good match for the real vessel.

The helicopter for this build is a metal/plastic toy that I modified to better represent the "Tuna Scout" helicopter shown in the old photo.
