Hello all.
I have recently thought about building a model ship from scratch, and chose to do a steam coaster. I had a book 'Steam Coasters' by CV Waine. This is a great tome, and has plans in. This was one of the few which had the bow and stern shapes too, so that was the reason I decided on this one.
Ophir was built in 1908 in Ayr, Scotland by the Ailsa Shipbuilding Co and sailed for the Zilla Shipping line from Liverpool. She was seconded to the RN during both World Wars, and finally broken up at LLanelli, Wales in 1954
Here she is, she is modelled as sailing on the Mersey, and the water really can be that colour - see the first link!

I used plastic sheet for the majority of the build, but did use brass rod for the main mast, and etch inclined ladders. I have got into these types of ships now, they seem to ooze character, and many have some slightly left field designs. Hopefully I have learnt from this process, and intend doing some more in the very near future.
Thanks for looking,
Ray
