Flyhawk HMS Naiad

Post by ch hoeltge »

Here it is, my first finished model of this year.

Image

The model is Flyhawk exellent kit of the AA cruiser HMS Naiad. It was really an enjoyable build and I made the model in only 5 weeks.

Beside the kit I also used the Flyhawk Set for the gun barrels and the AA guns. I also added some ladders which where missing in the instruction.
Actually there are some important pe parts missing which where included in the new limited edition set.
But with the instruction of this kit I could add some details here and there.

Painting was done with Vallejo Colors and weathering the old school way with oil colors.
The water was made with Vallejos clear Water texture. The waves are made from cotton and with color.

Nice work. I have this in the stash. Hope I can get around to building it someday. If I do, I hope it comes out 1/2 as nice as yours.

That is one nice clean build. I REALLY like the use of light weathering, a lot of work to make it look convincing.

Wood decks are a stand out as well. What's your technique for the varied wood color?

Very impressive work!

Very nice and clean finish. Your weathering is pleasing to the eye. I don't think everyone realises that this is actually quite a small model (of a small ship) - in your pictures she looks at least twice as big (at least to me) I guess it's because the wealth of detail crammed into this kit.

Yes this is a smaller model, perhaps in the middle range of 1/700 kits.
