And another one. Of course these are peacetime photos and it's possible that steel doors were fitted later to Scheer too but I could'nt find any evidence to confirm or refute this.

always hard with these stuff....well...my Scheer is end of war...I'll keep the steel doors...hoping they did fit them during the war lol

seeing the two pictures like that....yes whole stucture wrong..even the main guns are wrongly placed....but not gonna re-do structure....just improove it
on the rear castle...will be cutting antenna and ad the upper radar part...put windows, doors and such stuff
one day I might do a full scratchbuild...don feel ready for that yet
now thinking of it...I now see why I had the impression my rear AA platform looks too large...as the heller kit has that drop way further behind...its more narrow than the real one

as I am a practical fellow...near every smaller AA gun...there should be a amunition reserve box ...no?
I find it hard to understand they would not do so...at least a minimum to start firering and where it is protected from the weather...
hard to find details on that...I guess it will be a little bit....my own logic thinking...btw...on previous picture you can see I added one ...for the single AA that will be close there...and partly also might contain the life jackets and other equipement for those handeling the gun

it appears the railings for the light aa guns on the turrets are solid not what you have & is possible the spare ammo is located on the inside of the gun tub walls.

its hard to say...some modellers have indeed solid railing...but this picture made me choose not to...even if small size pic...you can clearly see the AA but not much railing.
If the railing where solid.....they should be clearly visuel even on this small size pic

another thing I remark when zooming in on the pic...the secondairy guns seem to have been modified with steel rear entrance...but ...I can't 100% confirm that

about the ammo...yes could be....but I doubt it has many rounds in that case

not when the gun tub walls are half the height compared to your railings.

I have seen those guns in action....they use ammo big time in a very fast way

I'm talking about the height of the gun tub walls that those guns are partially enclosed in.

even half of mine..they should be visible...the picture shows no tub walls at all..I checked the original picture at max zoom

I also base my making on pictures like this of Prinz Eugen

those guns where added during the war...on existing main guns...the germans needed steel...so min was used where not needed

found also this picture...if there was a steel wall...even 50cm high...it should be visible and breack the top line of the main gun
but that is my opinion...so I might be mistaken
where do you base yourself on?

The last picture of Scheer is from 1940/41 when there was just a strange small metal ring on top of the forward turret and no gun on the rear one.

Here is a late war picture, where a metal shield is clearly visible on the front turret around the vierling

ok...I see....and you are correct about the little wall....not sure gonna change it on mine..its painted and looks good lol...it might remain and become one of those..."Artist" own things
(artist is me lol)
I have 2 X flak vierling....I have seen renderings with it ...they did change the gunnery often not sure late 1944 or early '45

you got me cornered ....how the hell am I gonna put that box on mine...I made it round lmao...but still
:thanks:

to be honnest...I don think its an ammobox....putting the ammo box where your gun shoots ...looks not very lovely...only the blasts would make it a pain to go get more ammo...

This configuration is not a rarity at all. Look at this tub for an Oerlikon gun aboard HMS Warspite:

with some effort...one can nicely modify the simple original... keep in mind..the real one was about 13.5m long...the scale one...only 2.9...cm
