Hello guys, I need your help with a few issues. I want to build a HMS Nelson Trumpet 1/700 nr 06717. According to the instructions, it is the model true to 1944 and its camouflage reflects the one that is pictured on the box. However, I like the camo from 1942-1943 a lot more. So, my question is, if I make this model but change the camo to reflect the latter years, do you think it is still going to look appropriately or is it going to be immediately noticeable that something is "off?" Also, if that changed camouflage is acceptable on this particular model, can anyone point me to the more detailed description of it (also top view)? I would also appreciate the exact paint numbers from Gunze. Thank you so much in advance.

Yes, David, (thanks) has these 4 quad 40mm gun...So I understand that there can not be a kamo from 1942-43 ...What a pity!

I once built the Tamiya Rodney on 1/700 and it had the possibility to build it in the early (1930's) mode. If you would try to adapt your model to the first drawing on the page, it would probably come close to an early war Nelson and you can apply your desired camo scheme.

Thanks guys, I'll look and maybe I can do something about it ... I'm whispering some more detailed scheme of such a camouflage from all sides and from above. How exactly did it look like? Maybe someone has this and can share or show me where I can see. I can not find this in google

Dick and I have been working on illustrations of the camouflage scheme since early February. It's not finished yet though so I am reluctant to share it at the moment. I am reasonably comfortable with the 1942 version of it, but the late 1943-early 1944 version needs more critique. The scheme definitely evolved though.

According to the suggestion StevenVD and DavidP I compared Nelson's design and appearance from 1944 and earlier. To apply camouflage from 1942-1943, a lot of changes in the construction and equipment of the model would have to be made. I do not have enough experience and skills to do it the right way. I'm too weak modeler. So I have to stay with the camouflage as given by Trumpeter. I am sorry for all the confusion, mea culpa, mea culpa mea maxima culpa ...

Before you get too far, I think maybe your grey looks quite dark for G45



It should look quite light, especially in the sunlight.



I tell you now because I think you will struggle to get a good look with the darker blue panel on the hull if the grey is too dark. From your photos, the grey looks like it is closer to the old understanding of 507B grey. That is the same tone as the darker blue on the hull will be, so either you will need a very dark blue and the whole thing will look too dark, or you won't get the contrast between the blue panel and everything else.
