Great build. Like the s-hooks.
A good friend was on the Nimitz way back when....
Another is an AB I served with on shore. He was off Enterprise and then commissioned the Lincoln.
While on shore duty he and I got dam well run over by a crashing F-14. To this day he will buy me a drink anytime.

On the 187th day, God said, "Let there be light"... the hanger bay if officially completed. Here are some pics. There are 4 different hanger bay doors, so I have pics looking through all 4 of them. You will also see how I ran the Positive and Negative wires along the overhead of the hangerbay. Each bulb has a positive and negative wire come out of it. I simply stripped the power wires in intervals, and wrapped each bulb wire around the exposed copper. Viola....

That's it for now. I have to purchase another $45 piece of PE for the next evolution. I have to start work on the Flight Deck, Catwalks, and all of that next. It may be awhile before another update...

Hi Jason

Where did you get the info for building the hanger deck and bulkheads. If you have a set of plans would you be interested in making a copy and selling it?

Duane,
No plans, just eyeballing pictures of the real thing from various sources such as my own cruisebooks, internet sites, and books. The rest of it came from closely studying the works of Kelly Quirk and Cyrus Tan. Both master builder's whom I hope to be half as good as some day...

It's all made from sheet styrene...

She is coming along very slowly actually, that is why I have lacked some pics. Between work and family stuff, progress has been slow. So far, I have managned to cut out all of the plastic catwalks, and replace them with PE ones. I am currently working on all of the PE Hosereels and making all of the gizmos that go onto the catwalks. I have also finished all of the whip antennaes. It's a lot of work, but doesn't look like much to the naked eye. I hope to have some progress pics up soon.

Hi Jason :thumbs_up_1: Pretty much the same with me. I'm making very slow progress as well and frankly I'm in no hurry! (well, not MUCH of a hurry) I accidently deleted some of the photos in my progress thread but there is really nothing yet advanced enough to justify posting more pics.....maybe next month! I'm getting gray hair (more!) just trying to research the ship! I'd have to say that in all the hours I spend building Nimitz Twice as many hours are spent in researching it. I've come to the decision that I'm just gonna let some of the detail go because I do not want to spend 5 more years on it!

That's whats happening to me too. It's making it not fun at times. In fact, I have had to put Nimitz aside twice so far. During that away time, I have built and Arleigh Burke, and a PBR River Patrol boat!!

Finally some updates. Not a TON of progress, because most of it is little bits and pieces of very time consuming PE. I am almost at a point where I can put the flight deck on, and get some more painting done on her. My biggest hurdle is going to be getting the flight deck on, straight, seamlessly, and without breaking any of the PE. Ugh...

Jason,

about those deck supports, why have you put them that away round ?
Both GMM and WEM sets have you put the 90 degree angle up against the hull, which I am not so sure about....

I am

And very nice so far :thumbs_up_1:
