Hi!

This is my first post on the forum, but I’ve been following the builds on the site for years. First of all, I'm sorry, but my English is pretty poor...

I built this 1/400 Academy Titanic for over 3 years (it’s not just constantly doing this, but it was the main line). I used a lot of factory accessories for it (Flyhawk, Eduard, Tom’s Modelworks, Master Model, Uschi and Modelkasten rigging) and built a lot of things myself (like the vents I put together from styrene sheets).
The basic idea was given by the image on page 117 of the book Titanic in photographs, which shows the ship passing by a small sailboat. What I also liked about the picture is that the anchor can be seen in a lowered state, which I find interesting (if I interpreted the English text correctly, Captain Smith's ordered to lower the anchor after the incident with the New York).
I also continuously acquired the literature, Titanic the ship magnificent vol. I-II was very helpful.
Unfortunately, I was unable to correct all the flaws in the model, some of which I only realized after the construction was already in an advanced state.
The figures are the products of Eduard, I have hardened and repainted them. They weren't as beautiful as the factories, but ... There were more than 400 people on board.

The water is made of aluminum foil and AK water gel. I used Vallejo water texture, tissue and cotton wool for the waves, and I also painted the waves with a thin brush.
I made the small sailboat based on drawings. It is based on a 1/400 Airfix HMS Hood lifeboat, to which I added the other details.

I declared the model ready so I don’t want to touch it anymore, but I welcome any constructive criticism to make my next model better.

What a really great model of the Titanic you have built-- 3 years work ...==> --worthwhile!

so many improvements, scratchbuilt items and corrections...!

I particularly liked that you placed the deckchairs on the inside the covered promenade deck--

many people forget or don't.
but we can see them!

and making the interior... (!! )

Wow, this is really spectacular. Lots of precise, fine details and enhancements, some way "over the top" as the saying goes. But hey, those are the things that really set this apart from others of the same subject.

Terrific paint, too.

Oh, and the seascape looks real.

I attached a few more photos of the ship and a montage of Captain Smith's figure. Unfortunately it is barely visible, so I only show everyone the pictures of it, but it stands there on the bridge;)
One detail, which I think was well solved: I glazed the right windows with 3d varnish. It was quite simple to use and gives it the glittery effect I expected from it.

Jim, I’ll be putting together the pictures over the weekend, plus I’m trying to make better ones and send them to the gallery. As for the deck chairs, I think it helps a lot to make the ship full of life. I used them the same way for the Revell 1/700 Olympic model 4 years ago, but unfortunately the add-on didn't give enough, so I tried to place them in the frequented places. Not to mention that the deck chairs are barely visible up close on deck A.

I swear the little sailboat was not copied from yours I took the picture as a basis, but yours has become much more detailed, I really like it. And I also followed the construction of Normandie, very inspiring work, with lots of details and improvements

I will try to post the construction of my next ship on the forum as well. My next ocean liner will be the Airfix Mauretania ...

I am in awe of this masterpiece. The detailing is extraordinary, the finish nice and clean and the seascape so realistic!
The sailing boat makes the composition really atmospheric.

You put a lot of life in her by excellent use of the figures and accessories like the deckchairs. Very atmospheric!

One question: what is the '3D varnish' you used for the glazing? Is it something like Kristal Klear?

Looks to me like he might've used Chris Flodberg's method, but I could be wrong.

Well, the 3d Varnish is a product of a Hungarian manufacturer, Pentart. It is a relatively dense water-based liquid that is transparent after drying. Unfortunately, I don’t know what effect Kristal Klear has.

I got the idea from a firend of mine while the Olympic was being built. He said that in the case of 1/144 aircraft, he used to fill the windows with this material and create a nice glazed effect. It’s better than inserting the plastic part because the varnish fills the entire gap. In my experience, it works well for such small windows.

I don’t know what technique Chris Flodberg uses to imitate glass?
Is there a description of it somewhere?
Unfortunately, I only know his beautiful water making technique from the internet and Wheathering magazine.
