As the matt varnish is still drying, I'm calling this as my first completed ship of 2008 - I picked it as fairly straightforward build after six month on one subject- its the trumpeter USS England with WEM Captain Class brass and boats with L'arsenal 20mms.

HMS Riou was configured as a Coastal Forces control frigate - she would patrol with a team of MGBs countering S-boats in the channel and North sea - at some point, I plan to build the model into a harbour scene with an MGB flotilla - but thats for another day.

Andrew, that has got to be one of the best build ups of the Trumpeter England kit I've seen. Excellent work, thanks for sharing.

Hi Sean,
Thanks very much, it's Not submitted yet, but when I get a decent sunny day I'll take some proper photos and send them in. I just wanted to double check, did you get my Ajax submission a month or so ago?

Nick,

The decals are from Resin Shipyard (http://www.resinshipyard.com) - they offer a few different sets - these were Royal Navy WW2 pennant numbers. To be honest, in the only photo I've seen of Riou in this colour scheme, she had smaller pennants in the B30 blue colour, but as I couldn't get anything sorted out for those, I had to make do with what I could get.

That's alright, as long as the numbers are there!

Just joined as I am about to start on my own Captain Class. Although mine will be HMS Torrington as my Wifes Grandfather served on her.

I noticed I cannot see your photos of your build.

I have the book by Donald Collingwood regarding these ships but I would be chuffed to bits if I could see your build.

Also did you use the WEM PE set? I have the GMM set but this is really for the USS England and not for a Captain Class ship although it does contain some parts.

It dosent look like I can see the WEM set on thier website. Was it listed or did you have to request it

Anyway best Regards

Dave

Hi dave,

Here are the photos - I've only taken these three so far as I've still got a plan to build a dockayard scene including the Riou:

I did use the WEM PE - it's still listed as coming soon, but has been available for ages, its part number #PE 3594 and is in the US ships section, you might also want to order the Capatian class boats set in accessories - that'll give you all the RN style floats and boats.

I found the build pretty straight forward, and the instructions cover all of the needed changes, but give me a shout if you have any questions.

Andrew
