Hello everyone!

Long time no post, its been a bit busy around here. I would like to show you some pictures of my latest model. It took me a lot of time and it is not fully correct for the time depicted but what can you do. I got lazy and I did not take good pictures of the progress.

It is the SMS König around the battle of Jutland. The kit is the ICM kit with the Flyhawk upgrade kit for it. The scale is 1/700. Some parts were 3D printed, for example the 15cm gun casemates and the torpedo net booms. I chose to 3D print them because I needed so many to look the same. It was painted using acrylic paints. The masts are made out of brass rods. The rigging is a mix of stretched sprue, metal wire from Modelkasten and elastic thread from Uschi vdR. As reference I used plans from Koop and Schmolke and some copies of the B. Scholz plans I found online. I also found some nice photographs online. The model also has some custom made photo-etch parts, like the torpedo net davits, bow crown, and hatches. The torpedo net is rolled up photo-etched grid, i think it looks OK. It was a very long process but I learned a lot about the ships of this time, and new techniques.

A beauty! Love the rolled-up PE grid for the nets - do you have a link to which specific product you used?

Hello Timmy C, thank you for the comment! The one I used is this: https://www.scalemates.com/kits/flyhawk ... ng--306796

What I did to not use so much of it, is that I rolled it up over a polystyrene rod core in sections. The rod was 0,70mm thick I think, from Evergreen. Then it was just painted black.

Perfect, thanks! It's a useful option to suggest when people ask how to make them.

Very nicely done. That's a handsome model of a good looking ship!

Thank you all for the nice comments! :wave_1:

Here is another picture with a lighter as i have seen many people do. The perspective makes the model look a bit smaller than what it really is.

Wow, after a long silence you surprise us with this Erick!
That is a fantastic model! There is not only a lot of detail for 1/700, it is also done very sharply so it feels very much in scale. I like the colours a lot too. :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:
I think, if you would have written it is 1/350, everyone would have believed you! ;)

Thank you all for the kind comments!

@maxim, thank you! it needed some repairs in the rigging since the last meeting.

@Marijn, Thank you! its been a long silences yes, but I have been lurking around and looking at all the wonderful models you are building. This model did take a long time, but most of it was just procrastinating.

Great job. I love it, it doesn't have great effects and it has a nice presentation.
Marvelous.
