Hi Guys,
Tom,
I was aware of the elevated helo pad, but the time I gave myself was minimal, (even though I started this thing back in December). I guess that there were too many other things I focused on to enhance/modify etc. Personal preference thing, you know. Do it next time? Why not?
If you want to see the Iowa class elevated helo pad in 1/96th scale, go to the RC and scratchbuild fans thread>Huntington Beach run...scroll down to see the "rescue" pics.
Thomas,
Glad to hear that you got your raft baskets. Did you notice mine are not yet in place? They will be.
TamiyaCon was fun, but as usual the 1/700 turnout was terrible..3 entries including my New Jersey. Just the facts.
There were only 2 1/350th entries, but both Missouri kits. One of them was a terrific round bridge New Jersey in Ms21...I think.
My 1/700 New Jersey is far from finished, so when I get back to her, I'll get some more close up pics.
Remember, you guys make this hobby fun! All of you!
faithfully submitted, Tony Bunch
ps I have lousy handwriting, so the Tamiya guys did the best they could to read my name... :rolf_3:

4/5s down the page.

Yeah, the first prize Iowa in 350th was the Round Bridge New Jersey. If only there were more pics =(

Hi Guys,
Tim,
That round bridge NJ was really nice. Sean really did a nice job. I wondered if my Missouri was finished this year, if I'd have given him a run for his money. Maybe next year.
Tony

Hi Guys,
I finished the CV17, so I am back at the Tamiya 1/700 New Jersey to the end! I finished the model good enough for TamiyaCon, but t's really not finished.
As far as the instruction sheet states...it is.
Still remaining:
Replace:
Kit radars with GMM units...already painted ready to bend/cement/install.
Kit 5" mounts with JAG resin units and Nuttal brass barrels, (now this will be a chore)....... paint and install.
Paint and install JAG inflatable life raft baskets, (from CGN-9 kit).
Add rigging.
Weather.
Put on a simulated ocean, "wet", permanent display base.

All of this before August 2nd. Going to the Nats!
Ever seen Revenge of the Nerds?
..remember Booger Presley's "High on Stress", T-shirt?
That must be me :lol_3:

Hi Guys,
The New Jersey is currently, "in the yard". I have removed the radars, painted the inflatable raft baskets and made a decision.
Unless I finish the DDG escort for New Jersey, I won't be bothering with the 5" mounts and their replacement. In the amount of time I'd estimate to make the brass barrels fit the twin mounts on New Jersey, I should be able to darn near finsh the DDG.
I was planning to have a two ship display all along.
So, right now I'm actually working on two ships.
boing, boing..boing...
faithfully submited, Tony Bunch

Hi Guys,
Hi Dick!
Re-run? Sure looks that way :lol_3: You can't go?
Why have I been holding onto your IPMS Nats Atlanta Name Badge all this time? I have Graham's also.
You mean I have to save them for another year?
Is Graham going?
This means, California here....YOU....come do da, do da...in 2007!
Talk soon, Tony
ps New Jersey is still in the yard.
Tony

Hi Guys,
Thought I'd take a few moments to share a few pics. It is getting pretty fast and furious at this juncture. After all, I have to finish the NJ and the DDG...by next Wednesday night!
Leaving for KC Thursday.
The New Jersey still needs:
Life raft baskets, rigging, weathering, a few decals and to be attached to the base.
The first picture should be entitled, "....He's got the whole.....New Jersey in his hands..." :rolf_3:

This is pretty much what it will look like..just everything will be finished!

That's one nice Iowa! I've built the Tamiya Missouri kit twice (Once korea kit and another as BBG 66), and it was great. Same for the New Jersey

Tony, looking good

I need some info though. Which CF Adams kit in 1/700 is best suited for a 1975'ish diorama.

TIA

Hi Guys,
Avery,
Thanks!
My third 1/700 Tamiya kit; second of the New Jersey.

Guest,
The DDG-2 kit is pretty much the same as the DDG-21 kit...same parts, but the instructions differ.
Which ship will you be doing?

Scott,
Big Mo is next.

I have finished the New Jersey, but for the rigging and weathering. I just spent 4 hours attaching various teeny weeny details.

Take care Guys, Tony

Tony

It won't be any particular ship from the class, but i'm aiming for a mid 70's dio. If they are anything like DML then each kit represents a more modern version

Hi Simon,
I sent a PM to you, as the DDG's need not be discussed on this particular thread.
I don't mind, but someone else might.
Just finished rigging New Jersey, and I'll try to post some pics later today.
Onward!
Tony Bunch
