RV Petrel was built in 2003 by Vard as Seaway Petrel. In 2016/2017, she was converted for Paul Allen and became famous for discovering numerous World War Two wrecks in 2017-2020. in 2023, sheSie wurde 2016/17 für Paul Allen zum Forschungsschiff umgebaut und berühmt, durch die Erkundung von zahlreichen Wracks aus dem Zweiten Weltkrieg zwischen 2017 und 2020. In 2023, she made headlines again when she overturned in Leith dock while being overhauled, causing numerous injuries. She now sails for the US Navy.

The model was built using the 3D-printed Masters of Military kit (see here and a kit review in German). I replaced and added some details. The decals are mostly self-drawn and printed by Tailormadedecals. Unfortunately, I had forgotten the blue stripes and to paint them did not worked that well (especially at the starboard hangar door).

very impressive model! :wave_1:

The finished model does not show any 3D printing lines, it must have been some work to remove them. The decals look very good, I see that they print white. I will have to try that service.

Thank you both!

Tailormadedecals made a good service. It is not necessary to produce files already optimised for printing, they do that. They can print white and do not require to make a special file for the white parts (as I had to do for another printing service).

Great to see it finished. Very sharp painting and it's nice to see you've rigged the knuckle boom crane as well.

Thank you!

The word for this type of crane was new to me ;) Petrel has even two of those, but the one on the port-side is much smaller.

Always nice to see something outside the classic naval grey fleets. Fine work.

Thank you, Marijn!

Hopefully, there will be also a kit of EV Nautilus (ex Alexander von Humboldt ex Georgius Agricola) - which is currently used to explore the Midway carrier wrecks again.
