Stunning work indeed! Now I know what you mean with Master Modeller Jim Woods and why he'd build an LPG carrier like the Donau!
Difficulty to find my way through in all these different sections and picture sections of the board! And I'm sure that's the same for other people too, I think it should be simplified a little again since nobody has the time to really go from one section to another. And like this many things will pass unnoticed. I feel lucky to have found this topic by accident! That's one hell of an example for any merchant ship builder!!! Those lifeboats are models on their own. Do you have any idea how long he builds on one of these models?

Hey, is that Bill Clarke? He's a celebrity now!

Dave, Jonathan wants to know which magazine/article you mentioned him in?

Hi Darren Yes , spot on , Jonathan gets his picture and a plug in the latest edition of the Model Boats magazine January 09 with reference to the Glasgow Navy and National Warship day . It was good to get the opportunity to meet up with Joanthan and at such an appropriate venue.

Great new pics of those models Ron, any idea how long he builds on one of these vessels? They don't look like a lot of trouble in this scale, but they're tremendously huge and that means a LOT of parts to assemble. I can also see his eye for detail is extremely well with those lifeboat winches etc. added. Any idea where he gets the plans for such ships? Did he work on them before?
Such eye candy makes people dream sometimes...
:thumbs_up_1: :heh:

Hi Jim takes about 3 years on a model, he,s such a good builder and wins loads of gold medels he can get any where.
The plans came from the company, he was able to go aboard when ever the ship docked in u/k and take what ever photo,s he needed, he gets in places we modellers can not, he only builds ships that are in service, if its been scrapped he will not do it.
He,s an excellent builder and is now 83 and building the METEOR a German research vessel.

Wow 3 years, if I just had the time and patience....

Looks great, very impressive, certainly at that age. In a way I'm the same, I also build my own ships nowadays, easy to get pictures etc. Unfortunately very complicated gas carriers. My dream is also building these in big some day.
Great stuff once again, if you have any more, I'm certainly interested!!! The Meteor is now also issued as a Revell Kit in smaller scale, is he using this one as a reference too?
Didn't know it was that easy to get plans from a company that easily, if I had just known that before! Don't think it would work with our companies.
