Hello Everyone

I thought you may be interested in seeing my Skytrex 1/700 scale HMS Royal Sovereign.
The kit was built mainly out of the box with scratchbuilt furled upper sails, the flags and base are also made by myself.
The rigging is Anchor Alcazar 100% Viscose Rayon in black and buff colours.
Hope you like her!!

Finally here she is with my own model of the Tirpitz in 1/700 scale ,just to show the difference in size between the two, makes quite an interesting comparison.

Thank you for looking!! :thumbs_up_1:

Thank you so much everyone for the very kind words!!

Hello Maxim
Yes I already build sailing ship models to order, mainly in 1/1250 scale but have built quite a few in 1/700 scale too.
If you have a look over at the 1/1250 scale board you will see some of the models I have offered for sale recently

Here is a 1/1250 scale model of the Spanish San Justo as she appeared either at or just before Trafalgar.

all the best to you

Hugh

Hi Hugh,
Do you have built some of the frigates by Skytrex?

I started to built HMS Euryalus and the French 74-gun ship Marengo (using the Redoutable kit), but they are not finished yet. The same is true for the British 24-gun ship Rose and the Russian corvette Wostok (both scratch built). I have only finished a Roman scout ship and a Saxon ship, the brigg HMS Grasshopper and the galleon Golden Hind.

It is always good too see that also other shipmodellers built 1/700 sailing warships.

Lars

Hello Lars

Im very impressed with your models, your Golden hind looks so fragile next to the modern warship behind her!!

Yes I have built every Skytrex 1/700 scale model at some point unfortunately I dont have any photographs of them as I built them for other people, they are very nice models but need to be rigged sufficiently to be more convincing,
I have seen so many people build them with a very nice paint scheme only to ruin them by not rigging them correctly.
Im currently building Santissima Trinidad for myself, boy was she a big sailing ship!!

All the best to you

Hugh

Hi Rob

Absolutely brilliant if you dont mind me saying so!!!

What did you use for rigging and the ratlines as they both look finer than what I use.
Your sea base looks great too,it certainly looks in keeping with the movement of the ship and doesnt detract from it.

Well done!!

Hugh

Thanks Hugh, very kind of you.

Rigging - I always use stretched Tamiya sprue. For some reason I have more success from their sprue than any other. I buy a 2nd-hand kit every so often just to melt down.

the ratlines come from Atlantic models. They are a touch short for the lower masts but otherwise work fine. They need to be cut to the correct width which is easily down with a good pair of scissors.

All the best,

rob

Great job on the ship. Could you possibly tell me the size of the ship?

Since the thread is two years old and the author may no longer be following it, a brief math exercise indicates that a 1/700 HMS Royal Sovereign should have a gundeck length of 56 meters (from Wikipedia) divided by 700, giving 0.08m, or 8 centimeters. Or if you like using imperial, 8 cm is equal to around 3.14 inches.

Can someone advise if a model of the HMS Royal Soveriegn is available as a kit. I am in Australia and would love to build a model of her, I am a fan of Admiral Collingwood, and he broke the line first at the Battle of Trafalgar.

Yes, she is available as a kit, direct from Skytrex. At present they are not listing them in their catalogue as they had an interruption in the supply of PE that goes with the kit.

I suggest you email them, ask them for a kit without the PE and then buy the ratlines from Atlantic Models (available via WEM) - it will work out at about the same cost as Skytrex are normally willing to sell the kit without the PE for about £5 less.

Cheers,

Rob

Thank you for the continuing interest in my model everyone

I have been told that Skytrex have stopped selling a number of the 1/700 scale Napoleonics, and they are now appearing on the "bidding" site from collectors thinning down their stashes at rather inflated prices.
Good news is a number of them are still available via the Skytrex site but if you see them anywhere for sale at nearer their usual price of around £25.00 it would be worth considering treating yourself as that price is now a bargain.....Hopefully they will become available one day, would be worth emailing Skytrex(I have already done so) to hopefully get the missing ones again.

All the best

Hugh

The skytrex kits have been brought back by navy models and books, slowly being converted to resin rather than metal kits. I have bought their resin Temeraire and it looks nice so far. https://navymodelsandbooks.co.uk/produc ... gar-ships/
