It has been awhile since I finished the ship, but I finaly got her in some water and final portraits were taken.
This is the old Fujimi kit in 1/700 scale with bits and pieces from the p/e scrap box. Since I learned that Fujimi has re-tooled this kit I built this one fast and for fun. She is not a 100% Accurate representation of the real ship!

The water making shots..... Base coat painted and the gel added waiting for it to dry.

The gel has dried and the final touches added with artist oils over the gel...

Really nice, Dan! :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

I'm wondering what the clear base that you used is; the dimensions and manufacturer and what it might have cost?

Thanks for the kind words Carl.

The base is from "Michaels" arts and crafts chain store. They offer a 40% off any item coupon in the paper here. It is one of their cases, they have about 3 or 4 sizes. It lists for about $20 (minus 40% if you have the coupon).

Trumpeter also makes some very nice clear cases with a good variety of sizes that fit 1/700 ships. Kind of hard to find though, at least in my LHS.

hope this helps

Thanks for the info on the cases, Dan. I'll check out my local Michaels stores. The Trumpeter cases I find to be rather expensive for what they are. The IMEX cases were the best, for me, and at a reasonable price but, the sizes that I know need for 1/700 cruisers and larger are not longer being produced or available.

As a tip, I have rattle-canned some clear base cases in black, from the bottom. I mask off the edges and top of the base and spray the bottom. This, of course, is for those cases that have clear bases instead of the black ones that I prefer. With clear bases, one could make them whatever color they'd want, I guess.

PIONEER is another brand of display cases that I have seen at Hobby Lobby stores. I've spray painted the bottoms of these, before. They could be just a little taller, though.

Yea, these cases are clear on the bottom even with the oils down for the ocean base coat..... if you get to close you can see whats under it in some spots. Next one I use will be sprayed black on the bottom.
But then, I have thought about doing a spot of yellowish in the water and having a small bulb for a depth charge or bomb exploding in the water....

We also have some Japanese markets here locally that carry some nice plastic cases for a good price too. The biggest I found for those will only hold cruiser size ships. They might have been made for model railroad engines or maybe model buses.

Nice job Dan! We are fortunate here is San Diego...we got the Container Store (Fashion Valley). They have several sizes of quality acrylic thingys that can be used as dustcovers. Last time I saw a CD/DVD case that would work nicely. They also carry cheaper quality purpose made cases for footballs, dolls, memorablia, etc. Check it out Dan!
