Some time ago I wrote an article on the Historic American Engineering Record (HAER), a sort of successor to the famous HAMM effort of the WPA. While the HAMM plans are held by the Smithsonian (and you need to pay for copies), the HAER material is all freely posted on the Library of Congress web site. Your tax dollars doing something useful!

The ship material is poorly indexed and hard to find, and new additions are never announced. But a reader recently added a few more links, see the last comment on my article blog:

A couple tankers and transports are in there, partially... seems that even after a project is documented with well researched plans and archival photos, the material is posted piecemeal or not at all.
