A friend of mind has asked me to consider if the Montana-class had been modernized to 1980s to 1990s standards. So, I have a few questions for you guys.

What version of the Montana would you pursue? The Navy apparently selected the 27/28 knot version with a South Dakota propulsion plant, but I believe that there is a version that the same length of ship could also have the Iowa-class propulsion plant and produce 31.5 knots. The initial cost would have been higher, but the ship could have achieved more than 30 knots and chased down most ships. I would prefer the 31.5 knot version. Which do you prefer?

How much funding would you consider?

What kind of electronics package would you provide the Montanas?

What kind of weapons package would you consider for her?

Would you consider deep structural changes to the ship like cutting into the hull for additional weapons or facilities?

I am considering doing this project sometime next year. I look forward to what you guys have to say!

:heh:

I know you want to start the discussion from a clean slate, but viewtopic.php?f=67&t=44410
