What-If Arleigh Burke with big guns

Post by Admhawk »

I wanted to share this with all the WHIFFERs out there, cuz I think it's pretty funny. I'm not a big fan of Whifs, but it can be interesting to see what might have been.

In doing so, I am revealing my secret pastime of watching B movies. :sorry:

Anyway, a real bad movie I just watched (Bermuda Tentacles) has these Arleigh Burke Class Destroyers with 16" Iowa Turrets mounted. Aside from the fact that it would swamp the ship, it looks pretty cool! :thumbs_up_1:

Looks more like the smaller 8" turrets found on WWII battlecruisers and heavy cruisers.

I don't think so, the shape is more accurate for an Iowa turret. They are scaled down to fit the Burke hull though, so who knows what size the guns would be.

Yep. Looks like one right behind the aft portside SPY-1 panel which IMO, is a stupid location. :P This is why I don't watch B-grade movies. Too cheap, cheesy, bad plots, no historical/technical accuracy, etc., etc.

12 inch trips from the CBs looked exactly like iowa turrets to.
