How did you secure the ship to the base? Did you cut out a section of paper or did you secure her directly to the paper? Either way, remove the paper completely and remove all tape, replace paper if need be. Attach the paper to to the wooden base with wood glue. I leave it sit over night with a heavy weight on top to insure max adhesion. Wipe away any glue that oozes out BEFORE it dries or you'll have to sand/chip it off and you'll ruin the stain. That's why I always stain afterwards...learned to hard way Any idea what weight the paper is? I always use 300lb cold pressed for its thickness and surface texture. If the paper is less than 300lb, like 140 or even 90 then BE CAREFUL with the amount of glue. Those thinner papers can soak it up and begin to buckle rather easily. Although, that might be a neat way to get a disrupted surface? Hmmmm... Hope that helps, -Mike |

hi Mike , the ship is attached to the base with wood glue on the border of the paper and i used CA in the center , i dont think will come out easily but i can try . the wood base its stained with clear stain and than refinished with a semigloss varnish . i guess next time i will do this at the end i used watercolor paper of 140lb , i wasn't aware of a thicker paper ..i guess i will give a look at hobby lobby they have a lot of stuff there . thanks for the tip |

Never glue your ship with either of those glues, especially NEVER use CA!!! Acrylic Gel Medium and/or screws through the hull are the best ways to make sure the ship won't come off the base. I'd scrape the paper off the hull as much as possible and wait to attach it until you put the first layer of gel down. Put a nice thick layer where the ship will go and press it into it. Reshape the gel with a small putty knife or other appropriate tool. Oil painter's palette knives work very well for that, look for them in Hobby Lobby. Paint the gel, gloss coat it and call it done. 140lb should work fine. Its the 90lb stuff you have to be really careful with. I use 300lb because I do watercolor paintings and I always have scrap laying around. I prefer it over the lighter papers because it won't buckle unless you pour a bucket of water on it. Some of the others will start buckling after the first coat of paint. |

Hi guys Some progress, I guess I jinxed myself by proclaiming I would have it done last weekend. I gave it a go today and definitely moved the needle, just not 100%. For some reason, all of my pics tonight are uploading sideways. I will try and take more on Saturday. Really loving what I'm seeing from you guys, I haven't seen any of these Samek kits and now we've got two in one build. Keep up the great work everyone! Matt |

Love the work guys. Scharnhorst will be back out of the dock once I get over how much I love my Tiger build. |

Indeed, great stuff all around. I hope to give the Wyoming some TLC either today or tomorrow, I've (re-)learned that modelling on weekdays is not possible, with work sucking out all creative spirit and me hanging zombielike on the couch after coming home and all. |

Matt, The Delaware is looking great. I got the decks painted on the Chevalier last night a day ahead of schedule. She is now ready for a gloss coat on the decks and then the anti-slip mats (decals) to be added. Attachment:

Some progress: added the ship's boats. Add a lot of clutter and life. I always dislike have to fit a ships's boats, for some reason. And that even when my favorite builds are predreadnoughts that can fill a small marina all by themselves. But this went all right. Next are the searchlight platforms on the masts, some details, the final railings on the main deck and then last paint touch up round. Matt, gotta say, your paintwork on the Delaware is a lot sharper than mine! |

Michel, thank you for the comment but I assure its a trick of the light. Your build is looking great, as is everyone else's. I think I am going to call the Delaware done. I tried to experiment with some subtle weathering just to keep it from being monochromatic. Most disappeared with the flat coat, but I am fairly happy. Not my best work but this kit fought me hard, so I am happy I finished it. Looking forward to see everyone else's work! Matt |

Nicely done, Matt. Your Deleware looks great. I have made some progress on the Chevalier this week but not without any problems. I droped it on to the floor and she sustained some minor damage. I fixed some of it and just left the rest the way it is. The boot stripe has been painted on , the prop guards have been installed and the anti-skid mat decals have been applied. The mats took three evenings to install and several more to tidy up the darn things. The amidships bulwarks have also been installed Attachment: With just about all of the small parts added on. Attachment: With just about all of the bigger parts setting on ship. Attachment:

Thanks Gordon, the Chevalier is looking excellent as always. I started and finished for now my P-102/USS Stewart as she was when she returned to the US in late 1945. I don't like how she looks in the case I have, so I will do a waterscape when I get another one that I like better. Hope everyone else is progressing well and look forward to seeing everyone's builds complete Matt |

Matt, your USS Stewart is an interesting choice for a build and she looks great. I got a little bit more done on the Chevalier this week. She is now mounted to her base, the railings are on, DC racks installed, anchor chains installed, the 5" guns are mounted, the quad 40's and the twin 20's are also mounted. Now on to mounting the foremast. Attachment:

Nice build Gordon. Do you know if they are FRAM conversion sets for that kit? Thank you P |

Patman wrote: "Do you know if they are FRAM conversion sets for that kit?" I don't know of any FRAM conversion kits. I beleive that Dragon has a kit on the "Shelf of Doom" that someday will be released. |
