Ranger will have to wait for more scratch building motivation. Definately the Italeri re-work though. I am not going to put more money into an acurate box top( silk purse from a pigs ear) only to be disappointed ! I think that I will finnish the Fujimi Kittyhawk and work my way to Ranger.

The starboard aft sponson is looking OK. The port aft sponson is being re-worked and the forward sponsons are, well, :Mad_5: ! Lots more re-work to be done. Ray Beans photos are critical for this one. I also noticed that the island is :Mad_5: as well. It is not all bad though. The smoke stack is correct. The rest of it, not so much. I got the fantail fairly acurate so it is a start.

It would be so cool if DML could do a 1/700 Forrestal Class using the same common parts and a seperate parts tree for each ship just like they do for the Essex Class Carriers. But until then, where is my X-Acto Blade !

I hope to see some in progress shots of Kitty Hawk, some before and after shots, i know what you mean about the kit, i had the 90's version and besides not liking the hull and separate sponson arrangement(at a guess original plans were to knock out all four 2+1+1 of the class from the molds) i did find it lacking in details such as liferafts ect.

Happy modeling

John

Here is what I have on the Kittyhawk so far and a pic of the work area as well. See if you can find the Enterprise Airgroup, the Randolph Airgroup, the Bon Homme Richard Airwing and the Kittyhawk Airwing.

Bonus points if you can name the carrier waiting in the wings as it were.

I am hoping to get the PE done on the sponsons in the next couple of days. That will get the hard stuff done and speed up her completion. I need to get busy on those airwings though. They just keep piling up.

Looking good. What is the year your Kitty Hawk will be represented ??? I guess by the F-14s that it will be before 2002. Is it 1998 the configuration you re building???

Hi Nektarios,
Yes, it is going to be around 1998.

John,
8 Airwings? :faint: That is a lot. It is just not much fun to build entire Airwings. I have been trudging along trying to do them a bit at a time. I just generated a sheet of decals for CVW-5 that did not come with the Fujimi Kits. I did up the prowlers, S-3's, C-2 and E-2's.

Keep up the good work Ed. Building an airwing is a lot like going for a long distance run. You do not want to look past the next corner. If you look at the whole thing, it gets a bit overwhelming. The Enterprise Airgroup is just kicking my but. Very small and lots of decals.

Thanks Mark :thumbs_up_1: I've got several things in the works but, not ready to tackle the air wings for my 1/720 Nimitz, or the 1/800 Forrestal CVAs yet. Those will be aways dowwn the road.

Has this build started yet? I'd like to get in on it if I can. I have a couple of 1/700 scale kits in the stash. Is there a time frame?
