I have been staring the two Japanese freighters that ajkochev and reigels are building. They are very good builds and a nice subject, even though I am not into the IJN themes so much...
:thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

I made some progress myself too...
The deck is painted with Humbrol enamel 27, the main turrets are ready (blastbags made by me), the 3" dual mounts are into place but need some touching up. I also painted the hull red and I am going to use the decal waterline supplied by Revell.

The biggest pain is placing the thread for the rails.... It took me four hours just to do the forecastle. I used a single thread from one side to the other for each one of the three lines you see. You have to glue one line at the railbar every time. A tedious and troublesome task...

The whole build needs some touching up regarding the paintjob and some weathering. If I manage to finish before this Tuesday I might improvise some details like hose reels, fire hoses and other equipment that you notice when touring a fletcher destroyer....

I am progressing along with the Suraga Maru. I added some railings, the bow gun, and paint touch up today. Later I will continue adding the stairs and boat chocks for the lifeboats.

My camera is enroute as I type. I should have photos by next week of hopefully the completed model.

Apart from the weathering, this little entrant is finished. I decided to have the anchors up on this destroyer as I'm going to have it underway on the diorama.

Alright, finally able to begin my entries for the build. Photos turned out a bit dark, I'll fix that next time.

A DML Perry FFG and an AFV Knox FF with some superstructure parts dry fitted. Both will be in mid '80s fits. Bulkheads on the FFG have their PE and are ready for construction. I filled in the recesses in the upper deck for the masts so I can use the PE versions. I'm going to assemble the superstructure of the FFG tomorrow and add the helo hangar. Not much so far but its a start.

This is my first use of PE and I already lost a segment of vertical ladder to the carpet graveyard.

The scratchbuilt IJN Kitakami really came together this week. If I buckle down, I might just make the deadline.

Yahagi - finished.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2717/426 ... 6268_b.jpg
And while the 1st Yubari met with destruction the 2nd completed model is side by side with Yahagi

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4048/426 ... 18dc_b.jpg
Rigging on the Yahagi was forced on due to running out of my normal stuff, this black rigging is actually transparent rig line for fishing and comes up .05 that's not .5mm that is actually point zero five almost invisible which I had to run through a black felt-tip and then through super glue.

So now that this little project is finished, not being funny now what ?
Oh one last pix

Good work, Alec - I like the new rigging material much more than the old one :)

Thank you Quincy. You are always so good to post comments and compliments. I've enjoyed everyones builds so far. I'm hoping we will soon see your Suraga finished. I really like this little ship. There is a certain charm about smaller vessels which has interested me lately.

There are major flaws with my build but this is my first larger scratchbuild ship. There are things about this build I was impressed that I did really well, and a lot of others that I'm wondering how I can hide or fix.

Having never done one I decided to just start at the bottom with the hull and work up from there. I did the same thing with the superstructure. starting at their bases I made level upon level out of basic shapes and worked up from there.

I had a few hours to kill today, so is it okay if I throw in IJN destoryer Shikinami built straight out of the box using my new rigging material.

Here is where I am at with Suraga Maru. Railings added, deck cargo in place, from BattleFleetModels pallet load set. Timber from Northeast products. Ropes made from copper wire. I tried to copy Aj's technique, have not quite yet mastered it. I still have to make the masts out of brass wire, add ratlines, RDF loop and paint touch up and weather.
I should have her finished by next week hopefully.

Agreed. Love the details Quincy! I really like ships that are cluttered with cargo on the decks. :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

Last post before I finish the Kitakami. Basically fitting out and the clutter parts with I like are all that is left. Thank you everyone for your compliments.

Superb work as always AJ. :woo_hoo:

My build hit the skids, I have a head cold and do not have any gumption to finish at the moment.
All I have left to do is paint the masts, rig the derrick, add the flag, weather, and dullcoat.
