Well, here we go...

Since we could not make a decisive poll, the theme of the groupbuild is whatever...

Rules:
Participants have to begin the build after declaring that they participate.

There are no limitations on the scale and the type of ship.

Building perion from today, December 1st till January 31st.

There is not a limitation to full hull or waterline.

Dioramas are more than welcome.

All participants have to post pics of their unstarted kit and from there after in progress pics of their work.

Lets go guys... :woo_hoo: :woo_hoo:

Ok I'm in, I'll be working on the 1/72 scale CSS Hunley. Been putting it off due to other builds but now is about as good a time as any to start.

Probably shouldn't with the group build on another forum and other projects on the go, but will give it a shot anyway

Hey

So, my contribution is in 1/350 are the following ships, which will go to the same Mare Island diorama as the USS San Francisco currently in finishing phase.
USS Norman Scott DD-690. Trumpeter kit with L'Arsenal upgrade set, GMM Fletcher set, L'Arsenal, Pitroad, Goffy and Fujimi guys, and lots of misc items, in Oct. 44 and the sexy MS32/13D livery.

I am also going to tackle ISW's Yard Oiler kit. It is dreadful, but the only one of this important vessel. In fact, today I waterlined the hull and razed all those misformed bubbly details, and covered those uneven decks and bulkheads with 0.1 mm plastic sheet. Also replaced some doors, etc, and will scratch the deck details now or use resin and PE aftermarket bits...

Hey Gordon, at least you'll be able to start it an hour before the 'build' finishes and still have time to get it entered. :heh:

After water-lining Yahagi's hull yesterday and finally finishing the Myoko, I can now make a start on opening some of the hatches and doorways, as well as scraping off the raised detail on the rear deck section that will be replaced by some of the extensive P/E set by Hasegawa.
BTW, the screwdriver is not involved in the building process. :heh:

Bah it's a shame I'd started my CV-18 before this group build. I'll submit to this too with a 1/350 Commanders Indianapolis 1944. :thumbs_up_1:

I got progress too...

Hull and 01 level assembled and into place. Shafts, props, prop guards and rudder into position. (here she is next to a 1/200 Sovremeny in order to give you a size comparison as well as my cutting mat which is 43x27 )

I will try something new in order to save time. I will assemble most of the ship, excluding deck rails, mast , armament, and deck fittings and paint it then. After that I will handpaint the decks and any details and then attach the rest of the details...

I had planned to submit a 1:350 P.102/USS Stewart, but the kit was already underway. To stick to the rules, I have come up with plan B...

My build will be a 1:350 IJN Tatsuta light cruiser in 1919 fit. That's right, there is no 1:350 kit on the market, and the 1:700 Hasagawa kit is the only one I know of. I'll be carving an oak wood hull (leftovers from restoration work on a 1929 Studebaker!) and adding plastic and resin goodies from the spares box. So far, I have sketched the hull in 1:350 scale, scouted out weapons & other fittings, and found tthe oak boards for the hull. Cutting and sanding will begin this weekend, and more pictures will follow.

After painting the linoleum decks today, I thought I would jump ahead in the process and tackle the funnel. The Yahagi's is quite busy with piping and was going to make the adding of the foot rails a lot harder, but a couple of hours of work and the result, although not my best job, is better than I expected.

Hello there, if I get anything wrong, diving off on the wrong angle then please tell me where I have gone wrong.
Okay, this morning my IJN light cruiser Yubari arrived from Hong Kong this is by Tamiya and in scale of 1-700, first impressions, not impressed at all, the hull is rubbish, so I'll have to drill and glue bits to that straight away.

Above is a quick lick of spray paint and now onto the next stage.

Basic photoetch going in, most paint and glue beginning to dry, just a few more bits to do.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2766/415 ... 069f_b.jpg again, I'm none to bothered about the over-painting all this will be taken of later on.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2781/415 ... 5dd4_b.jpg
the basic PE is 1-700 IJN cruiser/destroyer which isn't a bad kit, I've got 2 of them, I've also glued in the rod running just under the deck and gone a bit mad with the drill, still, not bad for a days work.

Well it looks like Indianapolis won't be happening due to a backorder on the PE I need. Instead I'm going to opt for the Trumpeter Lex 1/350 as soon as it comes in the mail ! :woo_hoo:

Well my packages have arrived thanks to the UPS man earlier this evening. Tomorrow is supposed to be a rainy mess so it looks like I'll get to build most of the day. I've got an AFV Knox and 2 DML Ingrahams and one of Hobby Boss' uber quick sub kits; all 1/700. What I have planned is a bit ambitious so I don't want to let the whole cat out of the bag JUST yet. I want to see what I can get done first.

The Knox will become the USS Vreeland (FF-1068) and one of the Perry's will be the USS Samuel B. Roberts (FFG-58) both circa 1986 in a bit of a fictional scenario in the N. Atlantic. I've got both kits ready to go, GMM and other assorted PE for both and spare helos. I've already prepped the Sammy B for some PE on the upper decks. Tomorrow I'll be working on FIXING the bulkheads on the superstructure. After closely examining photos of the real FFGs I've discovered that both DML AND Academy's 1/350 OHPs are horribly WRONG in this area. Both have hatches and equipment all out of placement. Some hatches are missing all together while others are misplaced. Ugh...was waiting on some PE hatches to fix just this problem. Rest of it should be a piece of cake :heh:

I'll get some photos up tomorrow if all goes well.
