Subject:
This one is open to any civilian ship such as Passenger Liners, Cargo Vessels or Special Duty Ships. It also covers ships that were used as Troop Transports, War Material Transports or Hospital Ships. Any ship used in service of it's country during the Cold War Era, should be entered in the Cold War Build, otherwise civilian ships of this time period should be entered here. What If's are ok here as well as long as they fall into preceding criteria

Rules for Builds:
You may choose to build any scale, kit, scratchbuild or kitbash, dioramas are allowed, however the focus should be the entered build. Only the ship built as an entry will be judged unless ship is alone in a seascape at which time total presentation will be taken into account. Super detailed or OOB, doesn't matter, just have fun and share!
I don't want to way this down with lot's of rules, just as one good pirate would say, "They're more like Guidelines" to keep everything neat and organized so we all can enjoy and have fun.
-Only one entry per builder per category, you may enter into all 3
-Only builds from registered board members will be allowed
-If you are building a Cold War Era Destroyer or Transport, please enter it into the "Cold War" group build
-Final judging is final
-All builds must be started on or after the start date and be completed by or on the end date to qualify for contest. All builds however that fall into the categories that have already been started or will not be completed till after due date are welcome however to share.
-Any questions or concerns with these rules may PM me
-Keep it friendly and fun!
There will be awards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in each category. There will be an award to the builder that shows the most group spirit during the builds. At the end of the allotted time for each build, the 1st place entry chosen from each category will go into the finals for the grand prize.


This build will run from April 15, 2011 thru October 15, 2011

4-4-2011 Awards have arrived!

The awards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. These are really nice as they hang on a lanyard or that can be removed and they will lay flat or in their display box. They are 2.5 inches across and fairly heavy.

Our "Most Valuable Builder" award or the "MVB" that goes to the person of the three builds that shows the most spirit. You are eligible to win this if you finished in the top three or even if your build didn't place. It is 6X8 with a nice Cherry Wood finish.


To the winner of all three builds will go this very nice glass award. It is 7.25 inches tall with base that is 5.75 inches wide. Picture really doesn't do it justice.

I just was reading about Brasil Maru during IIWW.
It seems that many pasenger ships were used as prisoners transports by Japan. And the most amazing is the fact that these ships were sunk by allieds submarines comdemning to die to thousands of their own soldiers!!!
I didn´t know nothing about this part of the history but I think illustrates the madness of the war.

I didn´t found something about the history of this ship before and after the war...

Yes, history on the Brasil Maru is hard to find and confusing because there were two in the Second World War. The first one, the one I'm building, was a passenger-cum-cargo liner, and was sunk earlier in the war. The second one, the Brazil Maru (note different spelling), was the one that carried PoWs and a "hell ship".

Ill probably do a seascape including some LSTs, LCIs, and most likely at the center a Liberty Ship (main model/entry). All 1/700, painted per '44 schemes. Does that conform to the rules?

My ship will be a T2 class tanker.
These ships were builde in USA in WW2. But I want build a post war civil tanker...

During post war years this cheap but effective ships were the nightmare of many owners with newer and safer ships but more expensive too!!


T2 tankers introduced many new ideas adopted until today for all tankers: for example they were the first tankers to use centrigugal pumps during discharging operations... today this the normal procedure worldwide.

But the most important to me... T2 tankers had a disappeared siloute that I liked too much: The three islands configuration.

I have in mind someting like this...

On 11th April I will be registered... and with my T2 ready. If there is problems to register... we can arrange everything later.

I have decided the paint scheme for the hull...Red, black and white... a classic in merchant ships!
