I got to spend some time today in the basement working on the San Francisco. First I was going to make and paint the decks with my air brush, then I decided to paint the wooden decks with a paint brush by hand and air brush the steel decks, so I just painted all the decks by hand. i just need to do a couple of paint touch ups and then I can start glueing things together. I just could not wait to paint the decks.

Some good looking models everyone. keep up the good work and the progress. :thumbs_up_1: Sadly, my Yahagi I doubt will make it into this group build. The Akagi is taking to long but starting to come together at least.

Here's a few pictures for today's update. Everthing you see in these pictures are now glued down and she's ready for the small details to be added.

I hope that the rest of you in this GB are finding some time to work on your models and that you will post some pictures soon.

Reigels, the decks are cool, care to share the details of how you did that?

Gtbred, I hope you keep posting this build! I'd love to do one of this class in 1/350th.
I'll get back to Albany after Nagara is finished....

I think after I finish my current build I'll be working on my Averoff far more often, it really needs to get finished and I feel much more confident in 1/700 now. It's kind of sitting on my desk gathering dust and I'm not entirely happy with the main mast. I think it's going to be scrapped and redone.

The builds look good everyone. How is everyone doing? I'm still stuck on my Akagi, but it is on the fitting out stage which is nice. What with a recent change in work and a few other things, the Yahagi will have to wait. About a month and a half left to complete the your builds everyone.

Here's an update on my San Francisco. I got all the rigging done on her that i'm going to do. I have the aircraft, props, 20mm guns, 1.1" guns, two ships' boats, ship's number decals and a flat coat to go. I'm sure that she will be finished on time with about ten weeks to go for the GB.

I'll enter with one (or more) of the IJN Katori-class light cruisers in 1:700 scale.

In late 2011, Aoshima issued new molds of two of the three ships in this class and a third release is pending. Katori builds OOB as an early-war version of these ships. Kashima builds OOB as a late-war version, dropping some armament in favor of increased AA. And Aoshima is releasing the third ship of the class, Kashi, with a documented dummy second funnel in early 2012. A great on-going discussion of this class at: http://www.shipmodels.info/mws_forum/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=24937.

And here is my early review of the Kashima kit and accessories: http://www.shipmodels.info/mws_forum/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=83547, with links within for photos of box art, PE, and other accessories.

Well, I've taken quite some time away from the workbench, but one of the new Aoshima kits - likely Kashi - is coming on vacation with me in hopes of progressing toward completion for the group build. Hope to return with progress and photos in early August.

I did complete a build of the old-mold Katori earlier this year - seemed like a fun OOB comparison to the new releases. Will post a photo of that with the newer build as well.

The San Francisco is now done. I bought this kit in 2008 and it only took four years to complete.

I was fun being part of this group build, without it I never would have gotten up enough ambition to finish this model kit.

Looking forward to seeing everyone's completed builds.

Now I can go work on a DD.
