Hi Russ Once again I marvel at your work especially on the detailed fittings around the bridge. Thankfully information is available to make such fittings . I guess the word generic can be applied here as many of these "bridge fittings" where common to a number of German warships. :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

This is the type of shield with angular shape and is difficult to do in this form you do.

I love the binnacle :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: overall you have some great looking optical equipment. You really have taken your buildup techniques to whole other level with Sheer Russ! can't wait to see your next scratchbuild to bad it wont be a WW2 ship though but thats understandable you have done real well within this category and is time to move on..

That is why I bought some paper models - will give a new try sometime (already tried 2-3 but they ended up in trash-bin or given to my son as toys as I messed them :heh: ) - they include many those things (unfolding cylinders, complex forms, etc.) done right way.

Example (fragmet of the page)
Image

I will not dare to explain how to calculate the radius of upper and lower "part of the circles" (length of the circle is 2πR as you certainly remember) taking into account that I have to calculate and check the formula myself :heh: (do not remember by heart as it was quite long ago) as well as my explanation skills in second language :heh: But I hope you can do it or find out a quick good explanation - it really does not require something special.

Watching your thread - one of most interesting :thumbs_up_1:

Cheers,

Yevgeniy

thanks for looking in guys.yevgeniy never thought of doing it that way ,very informative, thank you.a little more work on the open bridge area ,a small structure just ahead of the tower,i made my own inclined ladders for it,the chopper came in handy to cut the treads all the same length.

yes richard it must have been brutal standing watch in the winter on the north atlantic.front tower is finished except for a few flags.the only photo-etch is the railings, and ladders.next is the mid first deck with the funnel and small boats on it.

Hi Russ Howie Baker A dear old friend of mine and a former subscriber to this site was passionate about the Admiral Scheer so much so that he built a number of large scale working models of the vessel , his last being at 1:128 , saddly he passed away last year . I mention this because he would have been enthralled by your build and the methods you use to scratch build just about every part of the vessel. I particularly like the work on the stair ways, I have tended to shy away from developing my own custom built ladders and stairways and relied too much on either stock PE. Or had it bespoked at some cost. Thanks for showing how it can be done. You sir are a scratch builder through and through.

hi dave, the reason i built my own ladders was i could not find them in photo-etch,1/144 is a little shy on fittings and stuff.
As my good plans are for graf spree ,all the changes for sheer had to come off a set of not so good plans in 1/192.to get measurements off them into 1/144 i divided 192by 144 and came out with a converson of 1.33, i them used my calipers to get the measuement off the plans.took that to my ruler then took that measurement multiplyed by 1.33 which gave me the length in 1/144.ther is more than likly a better way but this worked for me.this should work for all scales i think.
