Hi Russ Very sharp solder work indeed . Question what type of soldering iron and flux do you use ?.I ask this question as I find that the type of flux can have a bearing on how the paint reacts with the finished fitting . In the past I have used Bakers fluid which is superb but it contains acids which are hard to remove completely and can have an effect on the painted surface long after the model is completed. I've long since changed to a paste. Have you tried solder paste which is a solder in paste form which can be painted on the joint then soldered together. I have found that this is great for fine work but not really suitable for substantial parts. Dave Wooley |

thanks for the intrest guys.Dave i use regular solder and paste flux,i have smaller solder guns but i find myself useing a big trigger type gun more and more.i got tired of waiting for small irons to heat things up .the only thing is it seems to foul up the tip quite often.but i keep a wire wheel on my dremael to shine it up. i would like to try paste solder but so far i have not ran across it over here.to clean up the parts i wash then in lacquer thinner then soapy hot water. |

thanks dave, the boat deck, funnel area is finished except for rigging.the crane may look a bit wonky as it will sit down into the hull when the module is mounted on the ship.

thanks dave, richard.time to build the boarding ladders.they are built from styrene, again my chopper came in handy for cutting many small treads to the same length.there are lots of them as there are 4 boarding ladders,2 long and 2 shorter ones at rear.

Looks great Russ, what's next ? How about something Italian ? Andrea Doria always turned me on .I was a teenager and lived on the Cape when the Andrea Doria cruise ship went down and the name is stuck in my mind . Whatever you do it will be a jewel . |

hi richard, seeing that i am a canuck,i was thinking that i may try a canadian navy ship .the two i am contemplating are a st laurant class d.e after a rebuild to a helicopter d.e ,or a halifax class frigate.the reason for going to a smaller ship i can increase the scale to 1/96.i am limited in length to 53 ins.my work area will not take anything bigger st laurant would be about 46 ins. and a halifax arouind 53 ins.1 have went from 1/200 to 1/144 so i think a bigger scale would be a nice challenge and the older i get bigger things would be easier to handle 70 is getting dam close.(ps. i know the bigger the scale the more detail)

Hi Russ I very much like the method you have for making the stairway , I shall take note !!! By the way my good friend Jonathan Evans from Bradford Ontario produces a number of superb hulls of modern RCN warships and fittings , all 1:72nd scale . hmcsmodels@rogers.com Dave Wooley |
