Hello again all :wave_1: Well, I have been busy working on the seascape for the sub. A bit different from a normal surface ship. And in 1/72 scale. Attempting to make things believable was somewhat of a challenge! In any event, I think I have a good representation of the boat underway. The conning tower is not yet permanantly attached as I am awaiting decals for the ships number. Then after that some very simple rigging. Check it out.......see what you think. I really like the waterline scenario, but water is a hard thing to represent, as I am finding out, especially in a large scale. I am still working on my technique. Lets take a look.......

Without trying to be redundant, I have finished the waterline scenario with some exhaust plumes from the engines. I see many looks but no comments???? Opinions are welcome, as usual.............. :wave_1: :thumbs_up_1:

Hello,

I love the sub. I have the Revell U-Boat and your build has given me the idea to do it as waterline too. I think that looks so much more attractive then sitting on a regular base. It just looks at home in the water.

Thanks for the input. I was beginning to think that no one seems to be interested. I am trying to perfect a technique to do water, a seascape if you will, in larger scales. In smaller scales, modeling the feeling of movement is somewhat less involved. As the scale gets larger, so the water gets more complecated, in a model environment. I appreciate the comments as other modelers input is important to me, as a modeler. It is the illusion of motion and realisim that I am after, I will get it sooner or later. :thumbs_up_1:

Bill,

Alright, since you asked for comments...

Let me start by saying that I have followed your various builds with great enjoyment and, frankly, quite a bit of envy! This effort is every bit as good and enjoyable.

Now, to the comments. Some sections of the water near the hull and parts of the exhaust streams seem a bit "stringy" or "spiderwebby". It's hard to tell from the photos but unless you have photos that show otherwise, I would expect a lot of water to be running down the sides of the hull from the exhaust ports rather than totally expelled. The area of the hull under the exhausts should look wet. This leads to the next comment.

I'm always struck by what water does to the apparent color of hulls. Wet water tends to make dark colors, gray in this case, look even darker. The bow should have a significant amount of wet area. As mentioned above, same goes for the areas under the exhausts. Ditto for the extreme stern which should be continually shedding water. There are some darker colorations of the gray hull scattered about but I think those are meant to be weathering as opposed to wetness. Maybe I'm wrong?

Let me close by saying that what you've done is well beyond my capabilities and I have no solutions or suggestions for improvements, just my observations for what they're worth. If I had to try to make wet areas, I might attempt to spray/brush clear gloss with, perhaps, a bit of darker gray coloring?? Just thinking out loud.

Outstanding work and thanks for posting! :thumbs_up_1:

Regards,
Bob

Bob, Thanks for your input. I will take your suggestions under advisement. As I said previously, I'm new to subs. Not many real good close ups of them underway, rather from a distance. I'll work on it.....Thanks again. :wave_1: :thumbs_up_1: Bill W.

Bill, wonderful building, congratulations. :wave_1:

Some criticism: I badly see the planking of the deck, and can't see too the safety tracks............. For me deck seems too smooth, or will you yet to improve it?
That is not clear for me if you have this build finished......... :thumbs_up_1:

See the photo, the sub is Capitaine:

The material used for the deck is scribed styrene from Plastruct. The scribing is not very well defined, as opposed to plastic from Evergreen. A case of using the wrong material. As for the tracks you speak of and in the photo, I have no drawings of the layout of such tracks. Photos I have here taken in 1963 show no such track. In any event, I elected not to represent them, rather than do them wrong. Thanks for your comments.....

Nice Biil!
I have no idea what you had in mind when assembling the sub. :wave_1:

Every single submarine in this class meant to have had a distinct design and arrangement for safety tracks so really difficulty to represent them without references.
